Birthday lunch at Himalayan Curry & Grill

There was an interlude after James Coffee on Pacific Highway...

where we ended up going to Fashion Valley...

I still had some birthday offers to redeem and I also needed to do a return...Plus, window shopping. My husband is so patient.

Since Grantville is pretty close to Fashion Valley, we ended up coming here for lunch. I had a birthday meal from ibirthdayclub ($10 off a purchase of $20) and we both hadn't been here before so here we were.

It's in the same lot as Black Angus, Armstrong Garden Center and the interestingly named Camel's Breath Inn, which Cathy of mmm-yoso has posted on a couple of years ago.

As you walk in, you will notice the decor.

It's really spacious in here, clean, quiet, and colorful.  The gentlemen working here were all very nice. When I showed him my birthday offer, he asked to see my ID card, which was fine.  I'm surprised I wasn't checked at some of the other places we'd been. I actually appreciated him double checking. Maybe there were also folks who abused this offer in the past which necessitated this.

We chose an appetizer, two lunch specials plus a beer for Bert. He had the Black Yak which was a dark beer which tasted like coffee and chocolate. We both really liked it. It was recommended by our server as his favorite.

Our appetizer were two samosas filled with spiced mashed potatoes and served with a side of tamarind sauce. We liked that sauce so much that we asked for a small container to take it home!

Of the lunch specials, I chose A & F (refer to menu above) - the saag aloo (spinach) and chicken tikka masala. Bert had the B & E - the veggie korma and the chicken vindaloo. Both entrees were served on these huge metal plates with partitions. Both came with a large amount of fragrant white rice, a lentil soup and pickled vegetables. Freshly baked naan also accompanied our meal.  This was quite a lot of food. We barely made a dent in our food and took the majority of it to be enjoyed for the next day.

Bert's chicken vindaloo was so flavorful with  a bit of a kick. The soup was comforting but I only had a few spoons because I really wanted to eat my spinach side.

The saucy foods were so delicious with the rice.  If we hadn't eaten breakfast earlier, I could have polished this off, ha ha.

Those sauces were so delicious.  We really enjoyed our meal here as well as the ambiance. The service was attentive but not hovering. There were folks there on their lunch break (I noticed someone in scrubs, most likely from nearby Kaiser).  We'll have to come back to try their dinner offerings.

Dennis got this bday offer and curry always sounds good... Glad you enjoyed it because I'm tempted to try it out too! We did bushfire kitchen today and will probably snag a few more offers before they expire. Will be looking forward to your other experiences too! ;)

You guys should make use of their bday offer. Their food (at least from our one time going) was pretty good. The price was great and so was the portion. I've been able to use most of my bday offers. I even have a few that expire in May!
