and we would later end up watching news coverage later that evening...
Above is Powell's City of Books...which we actually passed by many times while driving to an from downtown. We did not visit it for our third visit to Portland. Travesty? Maybe, but we had so many other places to see this time around.
This was an interesting mural we saw across the Burnside Bridge. According to googlemaps, this was the 11:11 Supply Building. There were actually two buildings.

Each neighborhood in Portland has their own vintage movie theater. The Kerns neighborhood has the Laurelhurst Theatre, built in 1923 with an art deco design.

Last time we were here, the video store was known as Mike's Movie Madness. It is now called Movie Madness and is now operated by another vintage movie theatre, the Hollywood Theatre on NE Sandy Blvd (which was the same street we had breakfast after landing yesterday). More info about the recent transfer of Mike's to the theatre linked at the end of this post.

Chucky LeRay! Shrek! The Staypuft Marshmallow man! What else can you name?

The gate still has evident of the video store's former past. Not only is this a video store, but it was and still is an amazing movie memorabilia museum.

I miss the days of looking for videos at Blockbuster and Hollywood Video close to our home. Those days are long gone. Those establishments have since been replaced respectively by a dental office and paint store; we now watch movies by online streaming. Not as fun, to me at least.
I love seeing stuff like this.

While there, TC saw a recent movie she was interested in seeing, "Breathe", an autobiographical movie about Robin Cavendish, a British man who was stricken with polio, given only a few months to live, but lived to be 65 through the aid of a respirator (not an iron lung). The dvd (not shown in the photo) caught her eye since it had Andrew Garfield on it.

Movies are arranged cleverly here. Some are by country. Others by genre. These shelves were by director. Yeah, John Singleton! "Boyz n the Hood"! And Kevin Smith too! My favorite of his is "Mallrats".

We saw this last time and we were glad to see it again...

If you don't get it, let these video clips introduce you to one of funniest scenes in "Pulp Fiction":
and this:
"I'm not the one on brain detail!"
I didn't take too many photos of the movie props and costumes. They are by and large the same, save for some recent pieces acquired after 2012.
Here's one that I felt was worthy to post. A can of pea soup signed by none other than Linda Blair!

It was fun looking around here again. I was seriously thinking of buying a few used dvd's but decided against it since I didn't want to spend my money on non food items this trip.

Lucky for us, the coffee spot I had scoped out ahead of time was just a few steps away...
