visiting Goodwill, Thrift Trader and Buffalo Exchange all within walking distance...
I wa lucky to find street parking (2 hours) and wanted to use this coupon...

I got the camarones y tocino (shrimp and bacon) while TC got the Thai chicken (which isn't on the board) It looks like some old flavors got axed (the covered ones), such as the Thai curry butternut squash, which TC actually wanted to have since it was vegetarian. She settled for the chicken which turned out to be a bit too spicy for her.

Two types of sauces; the red was spicier while the green one was your standard chimichurri. Both were pretty good but I preferred the cream sauce our empanadas came with better.

I forgot to ask them to FRY this because these were baked. While healthier, they didn't taste as good as they would have been FRIED. They didn't have that crisp feeling that a fried empanada would. The crust tasted "dry" and not as fun to bite into. That being said, I liked the filling of my empanada with the tiny shrimps and the bacon pieces. TC's Thai curry chicken was also good but I wasn't fond of the minced chicken texture.

The overly minced chicken...

This was just a snack since Part 2 of our lunch was over in North Park. TC wanted to return to Red Brontosaurus Records to get the Basement LP. Prior to heading to North Park, we stopped by Cow Records which is next to the now defunct PB location of Sugar & Scribe (which relocated to bigger digs in La Jolla). Ironically, Cow Records which is a cute little record store, is going to close in about two or three months, according to the owner. This will be a separate post.
Part 2 of lunch was back to Junz, where we originally wanted to go to yesterday but our crappy experience at that shithole in Normal Heights kind of ruined our appetite later that afternoon.

Menu prices went up a bit. About a quarter to fifty cents more.

Even the "Completed Meal" went up in price!

Behold an older photo (with a different photo depiction of the meal):

TC's California roll (pretty boring, I know):

Plus the crunchy roll (in the back) and my fried tempura style crab roll in front. Both rolls looks the same. Seriously, it probably doesn't even matter what flavor it is that these are. It could have been fried anything, ha ha. I like that you can get a half order here too. Prices went up fifty cents for these rolls.

The rolls aren't for purists but if you're looking for something cheap and filling, Junz is the place to go. Some of the yelp reviews were pretty funny but brutal saying that it was the kind of place to go if you were drunk and hungover and hungry. Alrighty then.

What we had at Junz was way better than at T**'s. At least it had flavor and our order was done right. As for Papa Luna, next time I go here, I'm going to get it fried fried fried.

Previous visit to Junz:
September 2014 - back when the "Completed Meal" was still $4.64.
We wanted to make sure we got back home so we could both kick back and relax. Plus, I wanted to avoid the traffic before it got bad. TC was pretty excited getting her first record that day and I was feeling a bit of nostalgia while leafing through the records at the store.

Jake used to play softball right by Papa Luna and I went a couple of times to get empanadas. I wasn't ever totally wowed by them, though. Do you know if that empanada place that used to be in Bonita ever reopened somewhere new? I can't even remember the name of that place.
Did u get them baked? The empanadas taste better fried than baked. Maye's Empanadas, sadly is no longer. It is something g else now, a Metro PCS I think.
