located in this strip mall within walking distance from downtown La Mesa and its trolley stop...
And of course, I had a coupon...today happened to be their anniversary celebration weekend. We ran into a colleague of mine who was there supporting his good friends whose child was performing at the coffee shop. It was really nice to see the great sense of community here with parents watching their kids as they played piano pieces as entertainment for the customers. It also turned out my friend lives in La Mesa and was surprised to see us here. I told him that we usually try to explore different neighborhoods every weekend, which is true.

This whole shopping center had a small town Western type feel to it. Look at that font!

The cafe is just to the right of the tower. There was a line out the door when we arrived. Many were in line to buy beverages, all the tables were filled and there were quite a few people standing watching the kids perform. One boy was playing the classic Scott Joplin ragtime piece, "The Entertainer". I remember having to learn that way back when. The kids were so cute. It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of people.

Bert had some sort of hazelnut flavored coffee drink with soy. I had a frozen mint mocha (it was already getting hot that morning!).

It was so busy inside and we ended up taking our drinks to go...

The drink was okay for a frozen coffee drink. It served its purpose, which was to satisfy my sweet tooth and also quench my thirst. Lately, I've slowly been turning to the hot coffee drinks but at the more hipster coffee joints, the kinds with the limited menu that don't serve food.

The folks here were so nice as were the husband/wife tea a few doors down who owned the Postal Annex. Mom and Pop places have a friendly vibe and it's those kinds of businesses I'd rather patronize rather than a chain...

We'll have to explore more of downtown La Mesa next time. I'm curious to see the new places that have popped up in the past few years...

La Mesa is a great little town and the main Downtown area has so many things to see and do (there used to be a knitting shop called Crewel World where I'd find the most unique yarns). They've recently been doing some sort of road work and suspended having to pay at the parking meters, which is nice.
Interesting name for a knitting place. Not as bad as the one u told me about in old CV called Sophie's Choice. Yes, I like the small old time feel in downtown La Mesa. Lots of mom and pop stores. Didn't know about the meters being suspended. Hope it lasts awhile, haha.
