Bert and I took the scenic route after dropping her off at the beach...

which is marked by the iconic "Surfhenge" sculpture at the foot of the pier...
As we traveled east on Palm Ave, one of the main drags in IB which leads to Otay Mesa, we noticed a new fence being put up (early April at the time I took the photo). It's right next to an undeveloped parcel of land, called Pond 20. I remembered reading about it but it was exciting that something was finally being done to replace the chain link fence. This area is right where the sliver of unincorporated San Diego (zip 92154) meets Imperial Beach.

The fence is wavy and is meant to evoke nature with the blue sky and the sand beneath.

The fence also has surfboads and birds and other wildlife depicted on it.

The previous photos above were taken in the morning when it was overcast.
The photos below were taken after we picked up TC and the sky was a bit brighter. You can see some of the wild life motifs on the fence, like the turtle and a pelican (or heron?)

Although you can't see it, the bay is just beyond the fence and it is usually dried up and you can see the salt.

After all my years of living down south (youth + young adulthood), it was quite nice to see some aesthetic improvements along this stretch of road.
