@Spacebar Cafe

@Spacebar (not a typo) was a place we wanted to go to a month ago but their posted online hours differed from their actual hours so Bert and I went somewhere else...

This particular morning, they were indeed open so it was off to La Mesa...

where we could use this thing here...

especially since we really haven't gone to too many eateries in La Mesa.

@Spacebar, run by a nice husband and wife team, is an internet cafe that sells coffee drinks and serves breakfast, lunch and according to their menu, doubles as a tapas and wine bar in the evenings. We liked the barrels as table decor as well. There was plenty of seating within, eclectic artwork on the walls and even a small stage for scheduled performers (musical and spoken word).

The current art exhibit was interactive. Customers can "scan" the QR codes and learn more about the music/artists depicted on the music related paintings wall.

The album above with Michael Jackson in a bowtie?  That's "Off the Wall" which was released in 1970; it was one of the first records ever given to me as a gift by my best friend N. "Off the Wall" contains the hits "Rock with You", "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", the title track and "She's Out of My Life".

Water was served in these classy goblets.

Tapas and wine at night...

But not today. Breakfast this would be.

Our breakfast bagels. Bert's salmon with eggs and capers...plus my ham, egg and cheese.

I thought the metal containers held olives. They were black grapes.

Bert really enjoyed his whole wheat bagel with salmon. He's been trying salmon bagels at various places lately. As for me, I had the poppy bagel but I only ate the crunchy edges and only the filling. Bagels, at least American style, are so heavy and dense. Not so fun eating that much carbs.  Service was so attentive here. The wife came out to check on us. The husband was in the kitchen taking care of the meals and brought it out to us. They were super nice and didn't make us feel like total cheapa$$es because we used a coupon. A+ for their friendliness and great service here.

I have passed by @Spacebar so many times in the past few years...always on my way to someplace else. It looks really good. I remember an art show there a few years ago; it was crazy crowded so we sort of appeared then left without any food or beverages.

Man, Jake and I have passed this place so many times, I didn't even know they served food here! It looked like an internet cafe and for some reason it has never occurred to me that they would have food, haha. Now I'll have to stop in and check it out just to use that coupon.

I am curious about their tapas and wine!
