As we walked down Little Italy, I recognized a lot of the newer restaurants I'd read about on fellow bloggers' sites, like Isola Pizza Bar and Prep Kitchen. Of course, the older and more established places were still there like Cafe Zucchero, Mona Lisa, and Cafe Mimmo's...
After our brief foray into the cool art store down the street we headed up to find Pappalecco for our gelato fix...
I held down the fort at an open table while Bert and TC braved the crowds within.

Our rapidly melting gelato cups...

My original choice, the pear wasn't available so I asked Bert to surprise me so he got me their signature flavor, the Pappalecco (chocolate flavored hazelnut gelato topped with broken bits of biscotti). Good choice!

TC's strawberry and milk chocolate gelato. By the way, this issue of City Beat had an article by Marie (of Meandering Eats) in which she mentions her and Darlene taking Andrew Zimmern out for ice cream at Oasis down in Nestor. It was a very cool read!

I kind of wished I had what Bert had - that dark chocolate paired with the pistachio was awesome! The only thing was that the gelato melted way too fast. I ended up having to "drink" the last of my gelato, stares be damned!

Wow, I had to dig this one out from the vaults:
Behold, a moldy old post from 2007 while out with Bert...and an even older one, my first visit in fact (with TORC), also in 2007, in which MFH's husband picked us up off the street and chauffeured us there! Gosh, had it been that long? I could have sworn Bert and I were here not too long ago!
Anyhow...so far so good for the weekend! Tomorrow, we be grillin'!

We went here a few times this summer - my favorite is the stracciatella - cream with chocolate bits! Hmm, maybe I can convince Jake that we need to go tonight...
Ooh, I must try that flavor too!
