75 years of...

Has it really been three quarters of a century that this awesome meat product has been in existence?

There's a ton of new Spam flavors available because of this special occasion...

I bought this version at Marukai living.

You can see the gash I made in the Spam block. That happened when I was over eager to get it out of the can! Can you see the cheese globs?

Ooh, eleven slices instead of the standard eight. I like some pieces to be really thin and crispy. The cheese crisped up nicely as well. Tasted good with rice and broccoli later that evening.

There are also recipe "suggestions" on the back of the cans. This was from the Black Pepper Spam can.

This one was from the Cheese...

while this one was from the Jalapeno can. This is the only one we haven't opened yet. We got this one at Wal-Mart.  Other varieties I've bought in the past include: Hickory Smoke, Bacon (winner!), and Hot and Spicy (from Tabasco and it does have a bad aftermath the next day). There's also Turkey, which I don't like and the low sodium variety.

I bought this one recently during the Educator GF's day out for lunch. In between lunch at E & Drink and dessert at Surati Farsan Mart, we made some pit stops at the trio of Marukai stores.

You can really see those black pepper flecks.

The black pepper flavor proved to be too strong for TC. She didn't really like it and for that matter, neither did I. The black pepper overpowered the Spam.

Bert still enjoyed it...

One of these days, and most likely during a fit of desperation over not having made dinner, I will open up that can o' Jalapeno spam. Not sure if I can take it since the Hot and Spicy didn't work too well with my GI tract! TMI, right?

One of these days we will have to make the visit, NO, the PILGRIMAGE to Austin, Minnesota to pay homage at the SPAM Museum!

For more aboutSPAM, check out their website: www.spam.com

I like it sliced thin to medium and fried up in the pan and then served with rice and either green peas or corn (heated up from a frozen bag, of course....Memories of childhood). If I want to get fancy, I will cube it up and put it in my fried rice!

What's your favorite way to eat SPAM?

I love Spam!

I heard about the black pepper Spam and think I might like it but can't imagine how the pepper would compliment the already well-seasoned taste of Spam.

Did the cheese Spam stick to the pan when frying?

I want to try to make Spam fritters one day.

hi darlene - how was the can of SPAM spread? i wish it came in a bigger size!

the cheese Spam did not stick to the pan when it was fried. it did melt quite nicely and crisped up on the outer edges.

you must blog about your spam fritters experiment, if you ever made it!

I love Spam but then I grew up eating it. I haven't ventured out into the more "exotic" ones but I have tried the black pepper one and I don't care for it.

hi cab - yeah, if i had to pick, it would be the original spam as my fave. that black pepper version is to strong. i'm kind of afraid to try the jalapeno.
