Chi Chocolate

After strolling around the well manicured grounds of Liberty Station, we headed back to try a few sweets at this shop recommended by Mary of This Tasty Life...

It was really neat for Bert to check out the old Naval Training Center where our fathers and uncles were once trained as stewards in the Navy.

The grounds weren't crowded either. I enjoyed the seeing the Spanish style architecture of the former NTC. In fact, the NTC is listed on the National Registier of Historic Places.

It's significance in helping build the military presence in San Diego lasted from 1923 up to 1997.

Let's get on with dessert now, eh?

Here's a view from across the street. Look for Barracks 19.

This sign is around the corner from the entrance.

It's quite small inside. Cute decor. There is bench seating on the far end (by the big mirror) plus a few tables along the perimeter. Cute pendant lamps suspended over the chocolates.

We wanted to get some iced drinks...

The store is owned and run by a husband and wife team. Their cute young daughters were there in the shop. One of them helped her dad ring up my purchase.

While our drinks were being prepared, Bert and TC played a game of chess. The game ended in a stalemate.  On another note, the store also sells chocolate chess pieces! Great for chess fans!

Our drinks: Bert's iced caramel mocha, TC's iced chocolate (no coffee in this), and my iced mocha. All drinks were excellent!

I bought one of their artisan candy bars and a box of four chocolates. I didn't realize it until later, but the flavors are listed on the back of the card and the owner circled which ones were in the box, which was wrapped in a pretty sheer gold ribbon.

Our quad of chocs.

The chocolates actually have names. This is the "Joaquin" which has Buffalo Trace (bourbon).

The heart was called the "Tien" - this was my favorite, the Burnt Caramel!

This piece is something Kirby might like. This is called the "Alina" and it is milk chocolate with a dark chocolate Jasmine Tea filling.

Lastly, this pink crystal sugared confection was the Champagne Truffle. TC liked this one the best. Bert's favorite was the burnt caramel. There were a few other flavors we didn't try like lavender, but we will have to come back another time for those. Their website lists macarons but they didn't have any that day. They had some cookies and cupcakes but we here here for the chocolates.

The dark chocolate "sharing" bar ($5):

Here it is unwrapped. Studded with dried fruits (mango, figs, goji berry, cranberry) and nuts (macadamia, almond, pistachio). The underside of the bar is scored, so you can break off rows.

They've been in this location for three years but used to have a storefront in Little Italy.
