It's right off the 24th St. exit from the 5. If you head east, you will pass this old time Depot...
Keep going...
and make a left at the Port of San Diego sign...you will then hit Pepper Park, which leads out to San Diego Bay.

It's home to a boat launching facility, kayak rentals and an aquatic center. This is National City's only shoreline park which encompasses 5 1/2 acre. The park sits along the Sweetwater Channel (which can be seen from the west end of the 54 freeway.

Turns out several of my friends use this facility to go kayaking across the bay to the Coronado side. When we arrived, it was still a few hours before noon. Lots of parking and lots of folks out enjoying the beautiful weather such as these bicyclists.

We also saw folks flying kites with their kids, families having picnics, and many other people riding all modes of water transportation such as boats...

jetskis, Waverunners, kayaks, mini boats, and speed boats. Below is where you can launch your vehicles..

Of course, there was also a playground for the kids and lots of grass area to play around. In fact, TC and Bert kicked around her old soccer ball.

There's also a small fishing pier. In the distance, you can see a big pile of lumber, which comes from the Pacific Northwest. On the way to the park, you will see piles of lumber as well as newly delivered cars from Japan. It makes sense since the Mile of Cars is just a few minutes away.

The park is named for Leonard Pepper, a former National City business man and civic leader.

You are here!

As Bert and I looked at this map, we were pleased to see that we'd been to almost all of the shoreline spots on the map.

You can even see the Chula Vista Nature Center (it has a new name which escapes me but this is what I'll be calling it for old time's sake) from Pepepr Park.

The fancy apartments and condos on the Silver Strand can also be seen from the park...

Some of the water enthusiasts...

If I weren't so afraid of water and drowning and if I knew how to swim, I'd be out there too!

Hmmmm, I thought nets were "illegal". One of the other fishermen was joking, "I'm calling the game warden!"

It was getting close to lunch time and we had some chicken to grill at home.
But first, we wanted to make a stop at a local market to pick up a few things...
