Our original was to try a new sushi place in the San Miguel Ranch Area, Ika Sushi. It was mega crowded, so plan B was put into action...
which was to try Pizzo's, a pizza and wine bar a few steps away from Ika Sushi (which replaced the short lived Goody's Sushi). Pizzo's is right next to El Primo's taco shop (where I last had albondigas). One of my gal pals from the gym likes this place so I figured we could go here so we would't have to drive out too far. TC was watching a play for extra credit and we wanted to be close by within a given time frame.
The place was packed and I was discouraged by seeing how full it was. Lucky for us, we got seated right away at the very last table for two located way in the back by the kitchen. The space for Pizzo's is on the small side. The kitchen is open so you can see all of the workers making the food, tossing the pizza dough and all that.
Because it was the first Friday for Lent and because we wanted a pizza, we chose the only one that had seafood on it, the Clam Pie (clams, parsley, garlic, and mozzarella cheese). The bacon was an ingredient we asked them to remove. Could they substitute it for another topping? Why yes they could, so we got artichoke hearts.

Our server told us that the owner's grandchildren were the babies in the photo on the wall (they are in pots and wearing chefs hats! So cute!).

Squid, excuuuuse me, calamari counts as seafood, right, so this was our appetizer. Nicely fried. Not greasy at all. The batter coating was just right as well, not too think or overly thick and unpleasant.

Our clam pie - I was surprised to see the clams in their shells, one for each slice. Then I also noticed there were two pieces of clam meat, one on each side of the bi-valve. I thought that was a nice touch. There were more clams on the pizza, embedded in the cheese.

The pizza was very garlicky, which we liked. The clams were delicious as well but the only downside of this pizza was that it was a little too oily. It could have benefited from a more sparing use of the cheese, which was on the thick side. The crust was okay. It was not too thick but not paper thin either.

Noise level is pretty high here. I didn't like that. Bert was right in front of me and I had to raise my voice. Plus we had to contend with the waitstaff walking orders to and from the kitchen. The demographics are mixed, but there are a lot of older people in here. No teens at all and a few children but that's about it.

A clam pizza sounds delicious to me! I like that they have some in the shell. Too bad Jake doesn't eat shellfish, I'd want to order this but could never finish it on my own. Maybe if there was a personal size version, haha.
I know, I wish there was a smaller size. They were too heavy handed with that cheese though.
