(that's an espresso con panna, my new favorite drink)
where Bert and I enjoyed our first caffeine of the day...
Thane made the suggestion of going up a nearby hill to take advantage of the views at the top. The photo below, however was made as I looked out the back window (while TC was driving!).

We enjoyed even more views of the redwood forest persuasion in Oakland...

For lunch, we were in this neighborhood which has become hipsterized over the years.

As seen on a local street corner. I LOVE THIS.

We must have this again....

Bacon wrapped around seasoned fried rice rolls. Yessss.
Googlemaps led us to a nearby coffee shop situated in an Alley.

It turns out this alley was teeming with hipsters and families along with what they deem "carefully curated" shops ("curated: is such an overused word in my opinion).
We originally wanted to see a mini steam train up in the Berkeley Hills but en route, decided instead to go to the Botanical Gardens...

We didn't see any newts for the record but in Thane's neighborhood, a wild turkey was spotted!
Only in Berkeley would you see "Indigenous People's Day" mentioned as a holiday on a parking meter. Why can't San Diego do the same?

The building may be old (it used to be Oscar's, a greasy spoon/burger joint we used to frequent in our younger years) but is now a salad place.

Our last stop before heading back to Thane's for dinner was a new gelato shop in Berkeley.

They had some interesting flavors there...
I'm excited to do the full posts on these, but in due time of course.
So far, we were having a great time on our trip. Tomorrow we would be leaving the East Bay and heading over into San Francisco...
