over in the San Miguel shopping center with a defunct and empty Vons...
and many empty storefronts. Sadness.
However, for Los Primos, they've been able to weather the storm and maintain their status as a viable business unlike some of the tenants who've come and gone like Villa Capri, Goody's Sushi, and even Kona Kakes (from way back when).
It is this time of the year again...

Although our climate never really gets "cold" in San Diego (lucky us seriously), I only see this soup offered during the so-called winter months.
La Ley's beef tacos and Mr. TJ's carne asada burrito. He was going to get the albondigas but craved meat intead.

My other colleague's lunch, rolled tacos, which are hiding underneath the chopped vegetables.

Just know that they all enjoyed their meals - Los Primos' salsa bar has a good selection of sauces plus lime slices, and pickled carrots and jalapenos. You can also get tortilla chips and fried bunuelo chips on the side. You just help yourself.
My albondigas with rice and three flour tortillas (you can also choose corn). THIS time it came with a small cup of chopped onions and cilantro. Last year, it did not. :(

Another difference from last year was that there were more vegetables in the soup. So instead of just a few pices of carrots, there were a TON of carrots as well as potato chunks! This was nice and made the soup a little more hearty. There were four big meatballs; I ended up eating only two and I ate them separately on top of the rice (some of which I put in the soup, as suggested by La Ley).

This bowl of soup was quite substantial and I barely made a dent in it. As it was, the soup was overly salty and I didn't want to feel dehydrated by drinking all of the soup. I don't know what it is, but lately, I've been pretty sensitive to salty foods especially since I'd been trying to eat cleaner. It also sucks being sick and sounding like a cat trying to hork up a massive hairball whenever I cough. Okay, not all the time, but when a coughing fit comes up, I fee like crawling into a deep dark cave so no one can hear or see me, yes it's true.
Last year's post:
December 2015 - This links to a video recipe where the woman also puts calabasitas squash in her soup (I just found out that La Ley does that too for her version).
I'll have to learn how to make these meatballs so I can make this soup anytime I want (and also control the amount of sodium that goes in here). I'll make it La Ley's way and hope it turns out just as good!
