Bert scraped frost off his car window for the first time this particular morning with a snow scraping tool complete with a brush on the other end. He had a few hours to kill before starting his training class so...
off he went to Walden's Coffeehouse less than two miles away. I have to say it's very "geometric" on the outside, ha ha...

Bert said it was very "homey" inside and that the decor was cute.

He liked that it was empty and he could eat in silence, ha ha.

This was a macchiato. The cup is bigger than what it should be because this was an 8 oz macchiato. Hmmm, I thought a macchiato proper is supposed to be no more than 4 oz. He liked the drink well enough. It had more foam than what he expected but he mixed it in. He didn't need to add any sugar. He hardly does that ever. This is normally my drink (this or a cortado) so this was nice that he tried this.

His breakfast was their version of the McMuffin, called, heh heh, the MacWalden. This was filled with cheese, egg, and sausage. The kind of breakfast that I would usually go for. He wasn't sure if the muffin was storebought or not. It was enough to tide him over until lunch.

For dinner, he and a fellow classmate, a young man from Venezuela who works out of Miami, went to a local Vietnamese restaurant with the most boring and generic name ever, Asian Noodles. Note the "new" spelling of Vietnamese on the menu cover.

The place was not crowded at all and had the normal condiments you'd expect (soy sauce, fish sauce and Sriracha, but wait, no hoisin?). We have those same green chopsticks. Thank you Ranch 99.

Bert's pho with rare steak and flank. What sucked was that he wasn't asked what size he wanted so the waitress defaulted to a large, which was too much. He also had to ask for the greens. They served the pho without it. As you can see, the sprouts and herbs were very spares. Temperature wise, the broth was hot, but was "weak" on flavor. The amount of meat was generous but the quality wasn't that great. The flank was fatty and the steak dry. He's had better. Maybe standards are low in Reno? Who knows.

His classmate was wary of trying Vietnamese food so he had something more familiar and safe, chicken with snowpeas.

Bert was a good sport, taking these photos for me and documenting his Reno trip. He would be going to another coffee house the next morning...
