Return to Twist Sandwiches & North Park Nursery

Still in North Park but veering towards the boundary of Hillcrest...

is Twist Sandwiches, located between a liquor store and mariscos place...

The mission was to use this...

Their menu outside turned out to be outdated. They no longer offered the Geisha fries (they should tape over it or something) and their Buffalo Wings are now called "Buff Wings". Why the truncation? Who knows. We didn't order it anyways.

Our lunch where we did NOT order sandwiches (like last time). Instead, it was a Wing Day. Twist wings with side salad and the Smoky Sweet Chipotle wings (side was fries).

Twist Wings - This was on the plainer side and was served with a side of herbed dipping sauce (Bert thought it was honey mustard; I ended up not using it). The batter on these skins were done right. Very light and crisp and not greasy at all.

Smoky Chipotle Wings - This was messy to eat. Bring wet wipes if you want to eat these. The sauce was so good but sticky. It was hard to eat this neatly as in impossible. Bert liked these bit TC found the too spicy (she has a low threshold for spiciness). Bottom line, these wings were delicious!

The fries came out a little late. Last time we were here, the fries were thick cut. These were shoestring. Not sure if these are from frozen or what, but we liked the seasoning.

The wings with the buy 1 get 1 coupon were a good deal. The wings were $7.99 each with eight wings per order. Since one order was free, that was 16 wings for $7.99. Not bad, eh.  The guy working the fryer was by himself and man, was he busy. Several people came in to pick up orders and while we were waiting for ours, more people came in. The guy was friendly to everyone. No dickish attitude or anything.

Before heading home, I wanted to stop by the nursery down the street to check out their vegetables. We recently uprooted the vegetables we planted last spring/summer. We want to start over again. I remember getting my swiss chard here last year.

It was cute how they planted the vegetables in the wagon.

The ubiquitous kale.  Speaking of which, we were gifted some kale and kohlrabi from my parents. My dad had never seen kohlrabi before so he bought a six pack at the Navy Exchange and gave us a few. I've never seen or eaten it either so it will be interesting to watch it grow. They had some rainbow chard plants here but I think I will wait to get a better deal at the Navy Exchange garden center with my dad.

Some interesting things we saw while here:

Plus these statues/garden decor:

I don't think we'll be putting in any freaky gnomes in our vegetable garden anytime soon, ha ha.  TC wanted to put those little forest creatures from "Princess Mononoke" in her plants. It was something we saw online but we'll probably pass on those too.

Previous visit to North Park Nursery:
August 2015

The nursery visit was more to see what they had on hand. Bert and I worked on our garden the past few weekends (weeding is a killer!) and it's almost ready to start planting new vegetables. I can't wait to grow tomatoes, eggplants (and hopefully mustard greens) and peppers again.

Sorry I erased your comment about "wondering about those wings" by mistake! Drat!

Well, they were pretty decent. I liked the crispness of the Twist wings, which were rather on the plain side, but also liked the flavor of the smoky chipotle wings as well.
