Olive Baking Company

While in Mission Beach, why not see the beach, right?

We were taking a short stroll to get to the boardwalk when I saw this sign...

I'd never heard of Olive Baking Company and we had just passed a popular cafe along the same block behind us. It turned out to be Olive Cafe and yes, both establishments are "related".

I didn't take a lot of photos inside since it's pretty small but there is a wall of products on the left (breads, jams, jellies, honey; all local made). There is a display case of their baked goods which range from cookies, macaroons, turnovers, muffins, and cakes and more. The decor is cute and cottagey/French. There are some tables inside was well as on their outside patio.

We got two items, the Blueberry Coffee Cake ($2.75) and one wedding cookie (.50) to nibble on since we still had our coffees with us.

What I liked was that the young gal asked us which coffee cake piece we wanted (an edge piece or the middle, she said). Well, of course, it had to be the CORNER which has two edges. Yay for her giving us a choice. That was so nice and thoughtful of her!

The coffee cake had a lovely streusel topping. There were plump (and real) blueberries studded throughout as well.  The wedding cookie was okay but served as the perfect bite size sweet for me that afternoon. Since the coffee cake was on the larger side, we just picked at it and saved the rest for later.

Down the block is Olive Cafe.

But it was up the block we wanted to see...

The threat of rain was hanging over San Diego that afternoon (It actually came later that evening), but that didn't stop this surfer from riding the choppy waves...

We walked a few blocks before cutting through a side street to get back to our car.

Sandbags ready to go...

In the distance, you can see Crystal Pier in neighboring Pacific Beach. This pier is known for the cottages ON the pier. It's certainly a unique place to stay, the Crystal Pier Hotel.

It was cool running into this little bakery. I would definitely revisit but would want to get there early so I won't have to deal with crappy parking, ha ha. I want to try their sticky buns and their pistachio meringues.

There is no website but here the reviews from yelp

The bakery is fairly new, about six months old. It was so random finding it since Bert and I had crossed the street and decided to go down this side street which happened to be Santa Clara Place. It's really charming inside, their employees are super nice and their bathroom is also cute and most importantly, also clean!

Thanks for taking this random stop; I'll be looking for it next time I am in the neighborhood.

Hi Cathy - I couldn't pass it up. Bert knew that once I saw the "bakery" sign that we would have to go in..."just to look around" which basically means we would get something. Definitely check it out and remember, the Lab is down the street for coffee! :)

That looks like where Baked used to be. I used to interrupt my weekend Boardwalk run to get a freshly baked cinnamon roll there.
Yes...here is that four letter Y link...

What a cute little find! That coffee cake is HUGE. So nice she let you pick what piece you wanted, too. I also would have picked the corner piece.

It like how it is nestled by the beach and apartments. I need to come back here but I hate parking in Mission Bay.
