Noticing that the sign was painted over...
which used to look like this:

We also found out that the Sunflower Coffee Company, which was housed on the nursery's premises was "temporarily closed".

Here's what it looked like before;

Bummer since we liked their drinks!
The reason for our visit was TC's interest in growing some plants, namely succulents.

While she perused their selection, I wandered about the gardens. This was just a small section of their citrus tree selection. I liked that they had 'calamondin' (aka 'calamansi', a small Philippine citrus fruit).

We had a nice time just wandering their grounds, admiring the landscaping and looking at the animals.

The nursery's resident cat was out and about, until an over zealous kid tried to grab it's tail.

The cat ran up a hill and started scratching a tree. Perhaps sharpening its claws?

Here it is napping on the cashier's counter during our last visit:

This was a flower known as "Purple Wing" (Dalechampia dioscoreifolia) which was quite striking:

A staghead fern, billed as one of the biggest in California (there's an even bigger one at the Botanical Garden in Balboa Park).

These mini planters were quite cute, made by a local artist whose studio is in west Chula Vista.

TC bought a few plans here (to be seen in a separate post) but now it was time for either coffee or a small snack over in North Park.

Hopefully the signs for City Farmer's (and Nate's Garden Grill) will be repainted for our next visit. I think I want to get a few more vegetables for our spring garden.
