Return to the Old Mill Cafe

Yikes, I just realized I published this post in skeleton form, meaning no actual text. Iguess I was just in a hurry to put this out. So now that it's fixed...here it is.

Anyhow, after our morning session at Mount Helix....

breakfast was in order and we thought we would do a daytime revisit here...

to Old Mill Cafe. This is what the sign looks like in daylight. Last year when Bert and I went, it was dark. Ramen is now served here (you can see the menu in my initial post, linked at the end).  The sign used to have a picture of pancakes with a pat of butter and the price, $3.99.  No longer.

It was still pretty early so no worries about getting parking (they have their own lot, so yay).  The waitress told us we could sit wherever we wanted.

Below, their specials board.

The namesake painting...I wish this section was open for dining.

We ended up sitting at the same booth we did the last time. As you can see, major time warp decor (asides from the more modern pendant lamps).

You can see the Cat Cult mural as well...

We knew what we wanted.

Our hearty breakfasts:

Our sides - Bert's English muffins (came with his meal), TC's hashbrowns and toast:

Bert's Denver omelette with hash browns which was quite delicious with lots of ham, cheese and green peppers.

TC's eggs with tomato slices:

My patty melt on rye (also with tomato slices; I felt like I needed to eat something "healthy"):

Sadly, the tomatoes were tasteless as they weren't in season. I should have known better.

Grilled onions, cheese and a grilled burger patty.  The rye bread pulls it all together. I never used to be a fan of patty melts but somehow over the years, they grew on me. My dad used to order them during the rare occasions we went out.

Up next was coffee at one of my favorite shops in San Diego...
