Last week, I was in the area and decided to stop by anothe rfavorite bakery, this time in downtown Chula Vista...
I thought I'd pick up a few things for dessert for later tonight at Sweet Sisters Cafe and Bakery.

Wow, the next few photos were taken with my crappy non-smart phone. I was a bit mad at myself for not having brought my camera that day. Dagnabbit.

The street and sidewalk beautification project in downtown CV is now complete. There are brick paved walkways and traffic islands with trees and plants now.

Lanes are narrower too because the sidewalks were widened. They wanted downtown to be more pedestrian friendly.
When we stepped in, my eyes zeroed in on the macarons! Well, hello there!
According to the young guy working there, they just started offering those about two weeks now. Of course, I picked up "a few" for us to sample. And by a "few", I mean, one in each flavor.

Lunch was simple. TC and I picked up a take and bake pizza (pepperoni with roasted red peppers and cheese) for when Bert came home for lunch. I made a simple salad to share and TC made blackberry smoothies for our drinks.

The quality wasn't that great, but for $4, what do you expect? We wanted something quick. Still, it was something that we all enjoyed together.

I liked how TC speared the blueberry with the straws!

Here are the desserts from Sweet Sisters. We ate the macs after lunch, the other two mini cheesecakes were enjoyed after dinner.

I got one of each flavor that was available; they were $1.50 each.

The flavors were: Mango, PB & J, Coffee, Vanilla, Strawberry, Pistachio, and Cookies & Cream.

Our favorite was the PB & J! I liked this better than the version I had at d bar.

I liked the jelly filling in this one. The macs are simple here. There are no fancy embellishments like glitter or colored sugar like I've seen at other places. The price is about right. I've seen the gamut of macaron prices range from $1.25 at Brodard's, up to $3 at Bouchon. The fillings are buttercream, not ganache. The shells are light and once you bite into them, they crackle ever so slightly and give way to a moist and almost cakey interior. I'm so happy that we have macs in Chula Vista now!
Last two visits to Sweet Sisters Cafe:
October 2012 - Where I went there with CAB and Cathy then on to the Mexican Starbucks (aka D'Volada).
November 2012 - It shows the construction in progress.
Then, I was there again this morning and spoke to the guy about flavors. He said they were working on a passionfruit and guayaba (guava) macaron! I'll have to come by next time when they have those!

Oo, macarons! They look good. I love that TC put a blueberry on the straw, too. Such a cute idea!
Hi Mary - these are pretty good. I'm so glad that there are macs down here now!
