Crystal Pier in PB

I think the painted utility boxes in the different neighborhoods of San Diego are interesting. You see so many different designs that reflect the "culture" of the neighborhood. For example, in IB, you see a lot of ocean scenes like waves and surfing.

This was in PB and it was a pink flamingo...

which I only thought lived in our zoo!  I guess they were going for that "tropical" look...

At the end of Ocean and Garnet is another one of San Diego's beach piers...

It's not as long as the one in OB or in IB, but it does have its charms...

During the daytime, the pier is open to the public. There are actual cottages ON the pier and people do pay for the privilege of having their room right above the water.

At night, they close off the pier to the public and only cottage guests are able to enjoy the pier in the evening.

This was taken during late Spring Break when Bert and I took the girls (TC and KDD) out after our lunch at Crazy Burger in North Park. Each cottage was so cute, but there's a lack of privacy during the day since everyone and their mother can go out on the pier.

You can't beat those views!

Another gorgeous San Diego day...

The raft caught our attention...

Looked like fun! Too bad I'm afraid of water!

They should offer anti-bacterial wipes for these. Imagine your eyes/face touching the surface of that viewfinder...ugh.

View at the very end of the pier. We were quite amused by the seagull on top of the lamp post!

One of the fisherman just caught a fish - it's flopping in mid-air!

Each cottage had a planterbox filled with beautiful succulents!

It was already a long day and the girls wanted to get back home so they could bake something.

Man, my mom never let us bake anything when we were young. She was always afraid we would burn the house down.

Approaching the S-curve and seeing the familiar outer edge of the skyline.

Another fun day out with the girls...

It was nice comparing this pier to the other's we'd been to. The Crystal Pier's wooden boards are pretty old and creaky. It's definitely shorter than the OB and IB piers but the views are just as spectacular. The cottages also provided a bit of charm to the pier and it was neat seeing all of the different folks out there enjoying the day.

I think it's neat how the cars are parked in front of the rentals. Had to walk to the side to see how much reinforcement there really is under that pier. It just looks like a fun place to stay on a vacation..as if everyone in California lives on the water!

I'm sure it costs waaay more to rent one of those cottages now since it's summer time. Winter, not so much.

Yes, that is a very creaky (and old) pier!
