Return to Kafe Yen

Thank goodness it was not a damn weekend! I really hate driving around in PB, but with TORC as good company and her good tunes blasting from the radio, the drive was quite enjoyable...

TORC's iPod choices are always eclectic and it's fun trying to figure out some of the songs I'm not familiar with....

We were going to do double duty today...

Lunch first, then dessert somewhere else close by.

Luckily the place(s) where we wanted to go has a private lot. Even though the sign says "1 Hour", I'm sure people stay there a tiny bit longer. You also have to patronize the stores/restaurant in that area, which we were going to do anyways. And in the immortal words of Tim Lincecum, "Fk yeah!" 'cause we got the LAST spot in that lot!

Did I mention I had one o' these?

The coupon had the dreaded "2 beverages" stipulation, but no problem on that.

It was back to Kafe Yen. We looked at their menu online before we left...

The menu we were given (along with the lunch specials menu) differed from the online menu. It seems that their online info is out of date as they no longer offer salads (which is what I watned). Grrrr. > __<

Sometimes the coupons don't let you choose the lunch specials. In this case, it was okay, so we got a couple of those.

The view from our corner table in the front. Yay, good lighting.

TC and I sat where that dude was last year.

Our 2 beverages to make the coupon gods happy - TORC's Thai iced tea and my coffee. Some of the cream didn't really dissolve, hence the specks on my ice cubes. I like Vietnamese iced coffee more since it tastes stronger (if requested). This coffee was a bit too sweet, but still refreshing on this warm summer day.

Our soup which had a faint, sweet citrusy flavor.

Our dishes....

I got the Suki Hang - listed as Kafe Yen's "signature dish", which consists of glass noodles stir fried in sesame oil and chili sauce with egg, celery, mushroom, and cabbage. For a few dollars more, you can add the protein of your choice, in my case, it was chicken. The lunch specials come with soup, salad, and two fried rangoons (won tons filled with cream cheese; I remember mine tasting wierd the last time I was here. Today it was all right).

This was TORC's vaguely pedophilic sounding "Bangkok Tender".  Yeah, we both thought bad things when we saw the title. But back to the food...the dish had stir fried "tender meat" with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and bell pepper in sesame oil and oyster sauce.

As you can see, the portions are very generous. I liked the look and texture of my noodles. They remind of sotanghon. They had a nice chewy and springy feel to them.

I'm glad we gave this place another try. PB was crawling with tourists, but not here. Maybe the food was too exotic for them?

Previous visit to Kafe Yen:

October 2012 with TC

We both liked our dishes. The service was good, as well as the price (thank you coupon) and the portions were more than enough. TC ended up finishing the leftovers within minutes of my arrival home...

But first, dessert around the corner was calling out to us, like  the unmistakable pull of the Death Star's tractor beam on the Millenium Falcon...resistance would be futile!

Looks very good. Too bad about the salad; that would be my choice also.

Since it was a warm day, a cold noodle/lettuce salad would have been nice. they should update their website.
