Giant rice cookers are awesome!
Actually, this wasn't ours plus my parents have an even bigger one! This post is a compendium of party food that we've enjoyed the past couple of months...
My plate from a party for Bert's baby nephew (2 years old)...He had a "pirate" theme going on with a pirate ship bouncer and gold coins (melted) and fake swords as party favors.

It was held at this really nice park in Aliso Viejo. This was the same day that we did our OC roadtrip where we went to Sidecar Doughnuts, Pie-Not and Mel's Donuts.
Below, the spread of party food...

Lumpia

Pancit Canton

BBQ cross cut ribs and meat skewers with pineapple

Some sort of tomato and eggplant relish. I don't think this was a Filipino dish but whatever it was, it was good!

Kare Kare (peanut stew with oxtail)

There were blue and pink sweet rice cakes with coconut as well as this box from Manila Sunset which held...

Bibingka Royale - this is the "special" kind that is baked with banana leaves.

Empanadas

Fruit salad - This was refreshing on such a super hot day!

The bibingka royal (I made a cut in it, marring it for the photo. Poo).

I love the sweet and soft and cheesy interior. My mom used to make this when we were younger. Back then, everything was made by hand because there weren't any places to make it.

Blue raspberry jello shooter with fruit (non alcoholic, of course)

(shoes by TC and Bert)
This was another party we went to recently. It was a surprise farewell party for one of the choreographers for TC's dance troupe. This was the spread...

Rice, Asian salad and daikon salad

Fried Chicken Wings - these weren't from Mandarin and therefore, weren't as good.

Fried tilapia in the front and back. Tinapa (smoked fish) in the middle.

My plate...I tore off the tail and part of the belly fro the fried fish.

All right, here's my parents' giant rice cooker now! This was for my niece's baptism celebration.

Nachos. Yeah....cheese 'n chips man.

The full spread...I really like my brother's kitchen island. I want one of those but my kitchen is too small.

Fried chicken wings:

My mom's embutido (pork meat loaf):

Along with her Pancit Bihon...

Fried shrimp from a local Chinese place...

Half of the lechon. The top half, ha ha.

Here's the chopped up meat. Some parts of the skin were still crispy!

My SIL's Kare Kare

Lumpia (I think my parents ordered this somewhere):

Pancit Palabok:

Pancit Molo (won ton soup):

My mom's Mac Salad:

plus her Kutsinta (brown sugar rice cakes with freshly grated coconut):

Hopia from Gemmae's Bakery (filled with yellow mung bean). I love the flaky dough!

One of the guests brough Cassava cake. The topping is made from broiling condensed milk.

One of the two pans of Leche Flan.

Another guest also brought these really sweet and tiny red plums.

The plums were a hit with everyone!
It was a bit of a busy summer with all of these parties! As always, it's cool trying all of the different versions of the same types of party food (pancit canton vs. bihon vs. palabok, two typesof kare kare, wings, etc)...
