At the foot of Adams and Florida street was this park we'd always wondered about...
The banners above echoed the stone pillars that formed a "gateway" to the Old Trolley Barn Park.
There was once a trolley barn here back when the older neighborhoods of San Diego had trolley cars leading to downtown.
The park was dedicated in 1991 and has been a neighborhood favorite since. It's in a nice and quiet area. The playground has been modernized (with those spongy rubber mats instead of hard concrete), and there's a lot of grassy areas for kids and pets to run around.
At the edge of the park is a granite circle with a "map" of the park which echoes the former map of the old trolley's route from the neighborhood to downtown.
The sidewalks in the park were laid out exactly like the map and even had street names on the concrete as well as on these stone and granite markers. One big downside, I would imagine for the little kids, for the park is their lack of bathrooms.
Apparently, the old Trolley Barn area was quite close to a former Ostrich Farm owned by one of the founders of the neighborhood. On those "University Heights" banners, a depiction of an ostrich can be found (as well as those stone pillars).
If you go up to the fence at the edge of the park, you will see this amazing view of Mission Valley. You can see the River Colony apartments (condos now, I know, but we used to live there when we first got married), the VA Building, and the Mission Valley Marriott.
I want to say the Pooch Hotel used to be a Staples, but I don't even remember what it was.
TC thought she was a little too old to play in the playground, as evidenced by all the younger (and smaller) kids there. Even though she's a tween, she still likes running around.
It was getting pretty hot so it was time to take off...
