"It's a Wonderful Day for Pie" - Return to Papa Luna's

Last Friday, I took TC out for a few treats. I took the day off early to attend her school awards assembly to spend some time with her.  Afterwards, we headed up to PB...

(Yeah, I know the video is about fruit pie not meat pies!)

I was bitching a few posts ago about how I hate parking here. Well, the secret...at least for this particular establishment, is to park in the back!

Yes, just go behind the alley and you will find the holy grail, a tiny private parking lot...

for Papa Luna's  (which we recently visited a few weeks before) and also Sugar & Scribe Bakery. When we parked, there were only two cars there. I wonder how they know if the people who park there are actually patronizing their stores? In our case, we were; I'm pretty honest...

I kept thinking about how the owner of Papa Luna's had commented on Darlene's post that you could now order the emapanadas either baked or fried because before, it was only baked.

TC and I chose these two...

and I got one Carne Molida to go for Bert...

I also got a grapefruit spritzer for TC and I to share...sweet 'n sour.

The carne molida before putting it away again. You can see the "L" stamped in it; their code for the flavor. Bert would have this the next morning for breakfast.

Our FRIED ass empanadas! Much much better, thank you!

The "R" was for the short ribs; the sauce was chimichurri. I ended up trading sauces with TC.

My Philly Cheese Steak (can't really see which letter they stamped it with) with their Sriracha cream sauce...

The short rib interior.

and the Philly...these were piping hot and smelled so good! We loved the flakiness of the crust which seemed to be more pronounced since it was fried. When it was baked, it was kind of dough-y and bland.

Here's the carne molida again which was baked in the oven for 8 minutes at 400 F.

Of the three meat pies, I liked Bert's choice the best. This reminded me of piccadillo, ground beef with potatoes, onions, green peas and raisins. Except this had olives and bits of hard boiled egg.

Must get over my fear of working with dough so I can make these for myself.

Man, who am I kidding! I'm just going to cheat and use Trader Joe's pie crust!

At least these meat pies didn't have this kind of filling:

Depp still rules!  This is an actor I've been following since high school ("21 Jump Street" the original TV show was way better than that subhuman abomination remake with that potato-head). From Officer Tom Hanson, Cry Baby, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Gilbert Grape, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter,  and even Tonto, he's still got it!

Our next stop would be a few doors down...

I feel the same way about chimichurri too. I think I might have an aversion to the taste of parsley in general (along with rose flavoring). I need to try them fried!

'm not a big fan of chimichurri since it has vinegar in it. and yeah, parsley should just be a garnish not something to eat.

since you don't like rose flavoring, then you wouldn't like indian sweets or persian ice cream (made with rose water). they have that wierd floral taste. reminds me of old people lotion or perfume.
