Thanks to the powers of Blogger, I'm posting yesterday's lunch today and dating it from yesterday. I know, no BFD for the tech-savvy, but it's me we're talking about, eh.
Lunch was with the co-workers at Rubio's - Corn and Avocado Fish taco plate with chips and beans ($7.29). The fish pieces were pretty substantial, so much that I couldn't close the taco properly. They were a bit "overly fried". I did like the avocado, corn, and green chile mixture on top. Nice texture from the fish and smoothness from the avocado. Not too spicy either. I might have liked this more if it the fish was grilled instead of fried, but it wasn't an option.

Not pictured was our awesome dinner made by Bert, which was Panko and parsley crusted honey mustard salmon with salad.
And speaking of fish, last night (which was Friday), Bert and I watched part of "Rumble Fish" (1983), which was another movie based on an S.E. Hinton novel directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring then teen hunk, Matt Dillon:
The movie was very stylized and experimental for its time. It was filmed in black and white and very evocative of film noir. Matt Dillon was fresh off of making "The Outsiders" (also directed by Coppola). The movie also starred a younger version of the non-Botoxed and scarified Mickey Rourk and the late great Dennis Hopper (who was scary good in "Blue Velvet"), along with the beautiful Diane Lane, as well as Nicolas Cage (who also starred in "Valley Girl" that same year). Nepotism alert - Nic Cage is Coppola's nephew!
The percussion heavy score is due to the influence of Stewart Copeland, drummer of The Police. Even though we only watched a bit of the movie, his score ended up irritating me with all of the wierd sounds (trash cans, sax, wooden blocks). In fact, he recorded street sounds of Tulsa, Oklahoma where the novel and movie are set and incorporated that into the score, which was nominated for a Golden Globe in in 1983. I felt that the score was a bit distractive to the point of overshadowing the dialogue.
Hard to believe this was 30 years ago! I barely remember the movie coming out, but I have the book somewhere in my library. We recently watched "The Outsiders" with TC and she really enjoyed the movie, so I lent her my beat up "Outsiders" paperback.
I'll have to watch the rest of "Rumble Fish" before making my verdict on the film...
