Oregon Trip - Highlights - Day 7

Yesterday was spent hanging out in the trees..

literally!

Can you dig it?

TC making her way across one of the elements in the obstacle course while 15-20 feet off the ground...brave child! (she is tethered to the cable so don't freak out)

Our damn GPS (Garmin) had us driving through a myriad of stop lights while traversing at a snail's pace through small suburbs and towns on the way to our first destination. However, on the way back, it was smooth sailing all the way back to the hotel because the Garmin had us use FREEWAYS. Imagine that. Now why the hell couldn't it have done that for the way there???

Anyhoo, after our little adventure, we went back to the city for a late lunch (seen in previous Seafood Friday post) at a sushi place in the outer edges of the Alphabet District:

A few steps down the street was another place I'd been wanting to go to:

Bert seems to have a penchant for skull masks. The hatted figure's eyes move (creepy!)...

Below, a ventriloquist dummy that supposedly murdered it's master...

Such a lovely sight to see among others waiting to be posted weeks from now. I'm sure TC can report back to her classmates what she did over vacation...

"I went to some wierd place with my parents that had fake pickled brains and babies in jars on the shelves, Barbie dolls masterfully altered to look like monsters, alien masks galore and a rat's penis in a display case! What did you do?"

Of course, you simply must have one of these furry Sasquatches in your establishment! This IS the Pacific Northwest you know. Let the Southwest have their Chupacabra! Big Foot lives!

Down the same street, we got another dozen of these bad boys.

Choquettes, my waistline hates you!

Our marathon trip is drawing to a close, but we're not quite done yet...just a few more days to sample more carts and check out the outlying neighborhoods and sights to see.

A few observations:

People here really LOVE the Portland Timbers!  Right now, the game is on. Our hotel is a few blocks away from Jeld-Wen field where the Timbers are playing Real Salt Lake. Everytime the Timbers score, some dude Timber Joey, the current lumberjack mascot actually fires up a chainsaw and slices through a log and holds up the log slice to deafening cheers. It's so cool and hilarious! Even the people next door to us (the walls are thin) were yelling during the goals. Lots of people wearing green too!

Goal!!!

Unfortunately, our original plans to watch a women's roller derby game fell flat tonight. Tickets were already sold out. Sad panda. We really wanted to see the tough chicks from Guns 'n Rollers and the Break Neck Betties duke it out on the rink. Well, we will just have to wait to watch it on YouTube!
