Return to Alchemy

Nearly one year later...

I can't believe I forgot to post this!

Sometime last April(2011!), Bert and I had a "rare" date night. It was a late birthday dinner for me. I'd been to Alchemy earlier that month with the Educator GF's...

We got there quite early, around 5:30'ish...

For my previous birthday dinner, our server gave me a sample of the Mad River Scotch Porter. This time, both Bert and I had a glass to ourselves.

That was some strong dark beer I tell you! I think Bert ended up finishing mine. The dark beers have so much more flavor - this one had chocolate and coffee undertones.

Our mini batard with olive oil and softened butter...

Well, since dinner was practically ONE YEAR AGO, I wish I could remember what this dish was called! All I know is that it was fish because it was a Friday. It was some sort of ceviche garnished with a thinly sliced fried plantain (so pretty). The sauce, I don't recall what it was, but it was quite pretty with the orange drops of oil...

There's avocado in there. Hmm, and I think the sauce was citrus based. The ceviche was silky smooth and almost made me forget that I was eating practically raw fish. We also liked the addition of the plantain chip to scoop up the ceviche.

I liked what I had so much the last time I was with the gals, so we ordered it here. The Pan Roasted Sea Bass with Lemongrass broth, yellow beets, and bok choy. Ther was also a couple of dumplings in there. Those flower garnishes are epidendrum orchids (my mom has a shitload of those in the front yard and backyard - a sure sign that a Filipino lives in that household, haha).

They didn't give us a spoon last time, so I remembered to ask for one that night so we could at least enjoy the broth which was really tasty. The flowers I could have done without though!

We ate "light" at Alchemy because that was Part 1 of my Birthday Dinner.

Up next was Part 2 just a few miles away...
