Oregon Trip - Highlights - Day 6

Now if we had only gone here one month later!

everything would have been in bloom...but we just had to take a quick look!

Despite the non blooming state of PDX's famous rose gardens, we checked out the alternate location of one of the city's famous donut joints...

Sorry for the crappy photos, but those donuts were revolving! Donut aficionados will recognize a certain "shape" of one of those donuts there. Do you know which one I'm talkin'about?  Some man behind me (I believe he was mentally challenged, seriously) was excited and said to his friend, "Oh, look at the one shaped like a HATCHET!". I did everything in my power not to turn around and laugh correct him. Uh Sure....sure, it's a hatchet, because who wouldn't want to eat a hatched shaped donut FILLED WITH CREAM, right?

If you wish, you can get married here under the watchful eye of Kenny Rogers (as seen in the glorious medium of black velvet and luminescent oil paint):

I don't know about you, but when we plan our vacations, we plan it around food!

This was at a local pizza place that also make their own fruit flavored sodas...

Old school bowling yo'.....

Perfect activity for a rainy day...plus the shoes here were so fashionable! Pause.  Plus it's a perfectly acceptable way to act out your aggressions by hurtling a 8-12 lb ball to knock down some pins!

Literally steps away from the bowling place was yet another donut joint...

Considered underrated and in the shadow of the OTHER donut place in PDX...we found these confections to be more affordable and yes, better tasting!

By coincidence, we stopped by one of KDB's favorite burger joints in the same area and lo an behold, he was there!

I loved the concert posters that plastered the walls in this dive! Sweaty Nipples? Butthole Surfers? They even had Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church, Timbuk 3 (whoa, that's from the vaults), and Adam Ant!

This one place we wanted to see in the outer Pearl was closed so we thought we could "czech" out a local food cart in the heinously busy downtown area.  Dagnabbit, it was closed as well (see sign with yellow letters)!

As Hugh Grant in "Four Weddings and Funeral" would say, "BUGGERS!" or Chunk in "The Goonies, "Aaaaaah, shit!"

Not to worry! We still got our snack on at the Korean taco place around the corner of this popular food cart pod:

Must go now, American Idol is on!

Go Jessica Sanchez!!!

She's a local girl from Chula Vista, CA and she is Filipina mestiza (Filipina/Mexican) too! That girl can sing! I hope she stays on for as long as she can!

You'd have to visit in late summer for the roses to hit peak bloom. They start in late spring, but really don't all get going until later.

We'll have to go again then! Better weather too in the summer!
