Big State Drug

Okay, I lied. We're not going to the Cowboy Stadium just yet...

Prior to Bert's trip, we consulted our go to travel/food book, "500 Things to Eat Before It's Too Late" and lo an behold, the lone Irving entry was at this place...

"Big State Drug" - known for their famous Frito Pie.

The booths were all taken. Since Bert was just by himself, he sat at the counter...

Unfortunately, he missed the Frito Pie made by Chef Leland because that was only served on Thursdays and dagnabbit, it was a Friday! (Pulls hair and screams)

Since he missed the Frito Pie, he ended up getting a root beer float.

He said the folks there were really friendly. Lots of regulars there. One lady he spoke to later that day was happy that he went there. When she found out that he just visited Big State, she said, "That's where I go to take visitors!".

Their specials:

When you walk through Big State, you pass through the drug store first. The lunch counter is in the back corner. Love the old timey look of this place. No pretentious decor here.

Bert's root beer float; the color looks kind of light to me, but I guess there's a lot of vanilla ice cream in there. He really liked the float, especially the root beer.

Float this, I say!

Big State Drug Pharmacy - There's a nice photo of the famed "Frito Pie" in this article!
and The Road Trip Destination Guide, along with D Magazine - Ooh, you find out that the secret ingredient in the chili (used in the Frito Pie) is brewed coffee, which he uses for the beans instead of water!

He would have wanted to eat something but he was too full from the Pho from Legacy, so he had dessert there. He thought it was a neat place to go to and I'm glad that he was able to visit at least one place that was mentioned in the book.

Coming up...sculptures and stadiums!
