I'm trying to finish D's birthday crawl posts and this one...
ended up being pretty long so I wouldn't have to stretch it out.
It had been awhile since I last went to Mae Ting's and LAX-C. None of the other Educator GF's had been so here we were for a little snack and a look see.

The building behind Mae Ting's is still abandoned...

Mae Ting was there herself. She and her employees were also being filmed for some show and a photographer was taking photos of the food.

This dude is cool. He's helped us in the past.

Our snack - coconut cakes, pork skewers, two Thai sausages and one pack of sticky rice. THe cakes had a nice crisp exterior which contrasted with the creamy centers. The sausages were excellent (these were the regular ones; no spicy ones today).

This papaya salad was not ours, but one of the food plates being photographed by the show. One of these days we'll have to order this.

I didn't take too many photos inside LAX-C (you can see a previous post linked at the end). These colorful boba straws were a gift for Astroboi.

This wall is by the seafood area. They'll even fry your fish for you!

We headed over to the Velveteria, the only museum dedicated to black velvet paintings in the US. Earlier this year, Caron (one of the owners) mentioned that their lease would be up in September so I wanted to make sure we visited before they "closed". It turns out that they will not close...at least not yet. Caron is only there once a month while Carl (the other owner) runs the show and is determined to keep it running. All I have to say is if you like pop culture and art, then this is $10 well spent. I really do hope they are able to keep the museum afloat. It's next to a fish market in Chinatown. Parking is easily found at several lots nearby ranging in price from $4-7.

We took a stroll through Chinatown; D had some Thai tea from Ten Ren. The line was super long at Howlin' Ray's (a place that serves incendiary Nashville style "hot" chicken). We couldn't find Endorffeine for some reason; either they were closed or they moved.

A view of the East Gate at Old Chinatown Los Angeles.

The Wishing Well had NO WATER. :(

Before we left, we stopped byWonder Bakery by the gate...TORC got a strawberry smoothie...

While at Queens Bakery, D bought a few meat pies and some pastries for us to share on the ride back to San Diego.

Hot dog breads plus chicken and curry beef meat pies. The curry beef was kind of dry to be honest. The pastry was also not as flaky as I thought it would be.

D's Birthday Dinner Post @ Hui An (post combined our visit along with my initial visit with Kirbie):
August 2017
Our drive back had a few traffic snarls but we made it back within three hours. Before going to Chula, we had dinner at Hui An (linked above). I requested for Bert to buy some cake slices at Ranch 99 so we could enjoy them when we got back to my house...
Mousse cake slices from the Ranch 99 bakery - Chocolate, mango, and peach.
Of the three, my favorite was the peach mousse cake, which according to the lady at the bakery, was one of the more popular flavors. Everyone enjoyed the mini cakes which were a sweet end to a very long, but fun day out celebrating a good friend's birthday.
