Philippine Expressions Bookshop + First Thursday Art Walk, downtown San Pedro

Next door to Pinta Dos..

was Philippine Expressions bookshop...

Originally based as a mailorder bookshop in Rancho Palos Verdes...

and is now a brick and mortar store in the historic Arcade building in downtown San Pedro.

It's like a Philippine/Filipino book lover's dream come true. Linda stocks not only books from the Philippines (in all topics from history, poetry, art, politics, etc) bu also Filipino American (history, poetry, children's books, etc). There are artifacts from the Philippines on every wall and shelf. It's like visual overload.

Another carved wooden bench.

As a avid book collector specializing in Filipino American history, poetry and literature, I was sorely tempted to add to my collection.  I exercised great restraint and left empty handed. As I get older, I keep thinking to myself that I will need to downsize eventually and that I don't want my possessions to "own me". Therefore, one of these days, some books from  my collection will either be given to my friends or (gulp) sold. But in due time.

The soaring courtyard ceiling. The sun was setting, thus the waning natural light.

I regret not walking up the stairs to see the view from above.

Since it was the First Thursday Art Walk, we took a stroll around downtown. Many businesses were still open and there were food and street vendors as well as live music.

This was the west facing wall of the historic Warner Grand Theater (click on the link to see the art decor exterior and neon sign).

Our hotel was just five blocks away and we were getting hungry...

Although we didn't eat at this place, we ended up eating our leftovers from Nomad Asian Bistro and enjoyed the pastries from Paderia Bakehouse
