I was so happy that Bert took a day off during our last day of Spring Break...

We planned a day in points North, specifically Carlsbad...
During our last visit here, I picked up one of these. Look closely. It just says "Receive a FREE Danish on your next visit"....right?

Well, let me get into that in a few minutes (hmmmph)...
We hadn't been here since earlier this year and wanted to utilize the above coupon and maybe have that chocolate pretzel thing we liked so much last time...

Looking at the case below, we saw that the Chocolate Almond Pretzels were actually shaped like pretzels this time.

Compare to this photo from last time:

(from our January 2015, linked at the end)
There wasn't any "space" inbetween the pretzel twist shape. I think I liked the first version we had better because it seemed like it had "more".
All of our pastries had nuts, two with almond and one with pecan.

One new pastry was the pecan roll; the other two were repeats, the bear claw and that chocolate almond pretzel.

Looks so good!

But wasn't as flaky as I wanted it to be. Poo.

TC enjoyed this the most...

while Bert's bear claw wasn't as good as the first time he had it.

It didn't seem as flaky within and the almond paste filling was very sparse.

Maybe our first visit spoiled us for future visits?
Also, that coupon was misleading because the lady who was working there said that in order to get the free pastry, you had to "like" it on Facebook and show her the post first before getting it. Well, that wasn't specified on the fkg coupon. So Bert actually did it and was able to get the bear claw free for a separate transaction. What a pain in the @$$. Never again. If they want people to do that, it should be clearly spelled out on their coupon.

Next up, lunch would be southwards in Encinitas...

Yeah, they definitely need to put the disclaimers on their stuff! Bummer it didn't seem to be quite as good as the first time.
Yeah, that really was lame. :( Boo to that crappy policy.
