Dessert at 85C, shenanigans @ Zion + more pastries at Paris Baguette with Astroboi

I know you've seen trays like this umpteen times in my previous posts on 85C...

This was Astroboi's inaugural visit. He wanted to see what the hype was about...

Sadly, their selection was VERY sparse the evening that we went. There wasn't a line out the door around 6:30 pm'ish but there were a lot of people inside, but still not that bad.  What sucked was that their cases hardly any any sweet pastries inside or any of the ones I really liked such as the brioche, blueberry half moon, the striped mocha pastry with walnuts inside, and the chocolate bread bowl. Instead, they had mostly savory pastries like the hot dog bread, ham and cheese and potato turnover. Even though I had no control over their sparse inventory, I couldn't help but feel disappointed because I so wanted Astroboi to be impressed with it especially since he'd never been here before.

The tray above was mine (milk toast for TC), the calamari bun and almond half moon cake was for MFH whom I would see the next day. The other pastry was a new one I hadn't seen before, filled with coconut which Astroboi and I shared. Below was Astroboi's tray. The pudding/pastry in a cup was for his BF while the green tea roll and the coffee raisin bread was ours to share.

They boxed up the cup in this cute box!  He also got me a sea salt iced coffee. I always overlook the fact that they have so much cream in this thing. It ended up, uh "doing something" later. TMI? Why yes!  I honestly hope I'm not becoming lactose intolerant like Bert. That would really be a bummer.

We sampled these pastries. Of the three, I liked the coconut one the best, followed by the chocolate bun thing. The girl who brought out the "fresh bread" tray said there were walnuts in it but instead, it turned out to be raisins. Lucky for me, I can tolerate raisins, especially if they are mocha flavored. We both liked the buttery/sugary crust on the bun. Astroboi felt the green tea roll would have been better if he had drank tea with it.

No walnuts dammit.  Look at that crackly crust. I hadn't seen this particular pastry before.

At first I thought the filling was pineapple because it was yellow but it was coconut.  Another "new to me" pastry which we liked.

I wasn't a fan of the green tea so Bert enjoyed the leftovers later.

Before going home, we stopped off at Zion so I could pick up a few vegetables and deli items as well as a few pastries at Paris Baguette.

Astroboi  loved these animal shaped gel candy containers!

He even did a Bryanboy pose with another one, which is a pose made famous by gay Filipino fashion blogger Bryanboy in which you stand with one hand on your hip and your other arm stretched upward holding your purse. THAT photo not seen here.

I liked this cute bear container; other options included a cat, duck, mouse, and moose (that was kind of random seeing the moose one).

We were both amused by this vegetable. I'm not sure what it was.

Fun with these humongous daikon and tiny potatoes.

I bought four types of mushrooms that evening, including this kind. At Sprouts, this would cost $5, over here it was $1.99. The other mushrooms I got were smaller; I got brown and white plus enoki so I could saute it the next day.

This sign was at the register.

The hagfish, which is similar to a lamprey, is an eel-like slime producing fish.
(photo from the internet)

Hagfish have skulls but no vertebral column. They are also jawless and known to devour their prey from the inside out. How lovely. For more about this creature, read the link here.

My tray - two were for Astroboi and his BF, the corn crumb bun and the peanut butter crumb.  The polish sausage, cream cheese, almond and chocolate croissant were for me, TC and Bert.

Not as pretty as the one we had from Copenhagen in Pasadena (which I still to to post on)...

But it tasted nearly as good!

Before leaving, we took a quick glance at this store front on our way out. It sold a bunch of K-Pop merchandise...

Wow, people really buy pillows with their favorite boyband on them!

Here's a video of EXO-K, the Korean boy band:

I could only last 40 seconds into the song...

Not the kind of music I would normally listen to. AT ALL.

I sure hope I won't have to wait nearly a year before I hang out with him again. I had a fab late birthday evening with my best "boi-pal", along with our raunchy sense of humor!

What a fun day. I must find that cream filled raisin crackly topped sweet; it looks perfect, plus you said coffee flavored. Paris Baguette is also a place I haven't been to yet this year.

I was really looking forward to walnuts in that pastry but the raisins weren't too bad.
