The Ferry Building - Boccalone Salumeria, Miette Patisserie, & Blue Bottle Coffee

When Thane used to live within walking distance, we would visit the Ferry Market Building quite often...

Going in the morning when all the shops and eateries are just opening up is quite nice since there are no crowds and you can go about your business without bumping into anyone...

We've always enjoyed going to local markets wherever we've gone, whether it was Pike's in Seattle, the ByWard Market in Ottawa, or the Kensington Market in Ontario, it's always cool to see the local products and enjoy the sights and sounds...

We knew we had to stop here when we saw the big meat shaver machine...

The variety of meats offered for their meat cones...

One of the sliced meats had pistachios in it. Below, their meat cones, which are now $4. Back in 2011, it was only $3.50.

Any place that advertises "tasty salted pig parts" sounds good to me!

We liked all of the meat slices in here...

It was just a little taste for all the different things we would end up trying later that day.

Nearby was Miette Patisserie...

where I bought just one macaron ($1.85), the grapefruit flavor.

That was just a quick stop. Bert and I wanted to try a coffee at Blue Bottle, which is local to SF.

We ordered the New Orleans style iced coffee...

The guy working there was nice enough to give me a sample of the strongly flavored chicory coffee...

It was quite smooth and strong.  It was already sweetened and not as bitter as I thought it might be.

The other location of Blue Bottle is at the Mint Plaza as well as the SFMoma, neither of which we were going to visit, so this location sufficed quite well for us.

Caffeine was now in our system as well as cured meats! We were good to go!

Previous visits to the Ferry Building:
First visit in June 2009 and the second visit
November 2010

One of the items on TC's wish list for our trip was to see the sea lions over at Pier 39 which was 38 piers away!  It was time to utilize the good ole 'foot mobile' and hoof it over to that massive tourist trap!

Please sign me up for one meat cone, please. That's a cool idea to put a bunch of samples into one cone! I love markets. I'm sad we didn't visit any when we were in Florida but we just didn't have time for it.
