Astroboi and I thought we'd check what was "on the other side"...
Enjoying the pretty lavender blooms of the jacarandas...
As we walked up Goldfinch, we took note of the different restaurants like Lefty's Chicago Pizzeria and the uber hipster Brooklyn Girl, along with Cinema Under the Stars...
On the corner of Fort Stockton and Goldfinch was the place I'd been looking for.
This was the Meshuggah Shack ("meshuggah" is Yiddish for "crazy"), a little coffee shack that is a local favorite with the denizens of Mission Hills.
I liked their decor and the funny names of their drinks. You know the routine now for me. It's either going to be iced coffee or and iced mocha. The gal working the window wasn't really that talkative or friendly but pleasant in a bland, give me your money and here's yer drink kind of way.
Lack of customer service aside, Astroboi and I marveled at the decorated pillars of this shack...Lotso of pretty tiles inspersed with mirrors and broken mug pieces...
Many had religious imagery!!! I spy the Virgin of Guadalupe! As well as the Sacred Heart of JC!
The counter was a mix of the holy and profane - Jesus figurines and stamps with a sex manual!
Their decor was quite funny - Elvis,Barbie dolls, Catholic statues and a lava lamp...

They even had a "Mr. Bill" doll (not pictured), which was something I hadn't seen in a long time!
On the ceiling were religious plates and a rainbow disco ball:

Barbie arms with donuts were also part of the eclectic decor...
I liked that the shack was the Winner of the a 2011 "Orchid Award" (better that than an "Onion" right)!
We liked the glow in the dark Mary and the VoG mug...
Ha ha, everytime I see this image of "The Last Supper", I am reminded of something else...
Namely the "Last Supper Scene" in "Mel Brooks' History of the World Part 1":
"Judas! Do you want a beverage?"
I'd have to bring Bert here next time so he can try their other drinks...
My pedestrian Iced Mocha ($4) which was a bit too milky.
Nothing will ever beat Cafe Moto's version. This tasted like chocolate milk with a slight hint of coffee. It tasted better refrozen at home and enjoyed as a slushie.
It's hard to see but the figure above had a skull for the Virgin Mary's Head. Above that, the Divine Child.

Dessert was next...Unfortunately there wasn't going to be enough time to go to the Food Blogger Bake Sale in PB. By our estimates, the event would have been over by the time we would get there, so instead, we went to Kearny Mesa (this was a serious case of deja vu...)...
