Day 3 - Bay Area Road Trip: Heading into SF

One of the best pieces of advice we got was, "Stay in the carpool lane"...

Getting out of El Cerrito onto the I-80 was a breeze....

made even better by our Fast Track transponder, which allowed us to bypass all the suckers who had to fork over cash to pay the toll (insert evil laughter here). The carpool lane here also stipulates that it must be at least THREE PEOPLE, which we were, but man, that's one more person  to qualify for carpool status up here than in SD.

We got to drive on the new Bay Bridge, which was still being built during our visit in 2011.

This was the new Eastern span of the bridge..

Entering the Yerba Buena Tunnel...

The bridge was surrounded by San Francisco's famous fog...

It was way too early to go to our hotel on Hob Nob Hill. Our plan was to park at the garage on 5th and Mission (near Yerba Buena Gardens), then take the Muni over to the Ferry Building.

Bert thought we could walk, but uh, NO...I'm glad we didn't because I would have been an unhappy camper.

We had to walk a few blocks from the garage to the station, passing by the offices of the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as this Filipino restaurant...

Our ride was uneventful but a relief from having to walk all those blocks.  It was still quite early (9:30'ish) and the Ferry Building would be nice and uncrowded...

Up next, some snacks were in order!
