Asia Cafe updates their menu

Yesterday before heading over to the hell known as Fashion Valley mall (I needed to look for new eyeglass frames), we had lunch at one of our favorite spots...

Same old exterior, but wait, what's this?

Their menu has been updated after how many years!

Let us compare...

This is the old dirty and sticky menu that I came to know and love...

Some of them even had taped on post it notes to indicate adding on .50:

Another menu didn't have the post its, but rather, the directions were written directly on the menu:

Gone are the post it add on prices and the cool Lao writing.  With no further ado, here is the new menu:

Notice #31 - Anyone know what beef "melt" is?  And I think they mean beef "guts"! I like that they were blunt about THAT!  In their previous menu, one of their soups did not have a description and when I asked, the guy told me it had intestines in it.

Guess what is NOW listed on their menu? Gone is it's mysterious secret status...

#68 is now on there!  Salade with an "e' yo'!!! We're glad that Nem Khao is on there for all to see.

Back in December, we saw this placard at the tables and were surprised to see this...

Of course we had to get it, the Nem Khao.

TC's pho with rare steak and flank...

There are more crispy bits that before and the sausage is more meaty and less stringy than when I first had this dish in 2006.

We all shared the Nem Khao but Bert and I shared the Fried Fish (tilapia). It was nice that they gave us a pair and that the fish was a good individual size portion.

In homage to Cathy's husband who likes to "clean" his fish skeleton, here is Bert's version...

No leftovers that day! Even the Nem Khao was polished off!

The menu update was needed. Those older menus, while they had their charm, were getting pretty grungy. I will have to get used to this new menu and their numbers and the new spellings. We were looking for the soup that I liked so much but couldn't find it initially until I asked the owner and he pointed it out to me (it was #19).  The folks here are always so friendly and welcoming.

I am *so* craving nem khao, papaya salad and larb. I will miss those menus. Bert is doing quite well with the skeletal cleaning!

HI cathy - they have papaya salad here and offer it either Thai or Lao style. I prefer the Thai since the Lao fish sauce is too strong for my liking.

haha, skeletal cleaning! My parents trump him though!
