EscoGelato

Now where were we?

Oh yeah...dessert part two!

which was here at a gelato place that I looked up on yelp at the last minute before leaving the house!

Duh on me, I totally blanked out on the "Esco" part of their name, wondering why they even called themselves that.

"Hello, McFly!"

Unwieldy name or not, this place was a great little respite during our little daytrip to Escondido.

In addition to gelatos, they also offered coffee, panini's and salads.

Their housemade gelatos were beckoning to us. You could see which flavors were popular!

It was nice and cool inside but I wanted to sit outside to enjoy the sun and also to take advantage of better lighting (heh heh).

I want a glass dome for my baked goods!

Our three gelatos. Can you believe this was a size small ($3.50)? Aaaaaad what was even better was that we could get two flavors for this size! Score!

TC's  Stracciatella (vanilla with ribbons of chocolate) and Mango:

My cup which had Blueberry Cheesecake and Banana Guava:

Lastly, Bert's cup which was filled with Hazelnut Chip and Pistachio (one of the most popular flavors there judging from the nearly empty bin). We liked that the pistachio flavor wasn't artificially green and it tasted very very nutty. This was one of his favorites.

Aaaagh, mesh tables are not good when your gelato is dripping (and you're wearing shorts)!  Believe it or not, I was NOT able to finish my gelato. I think a unicorn shed a tear that day, but I simply couldn't do it. These smalls were HUGE!

The flavor selection of their gelatos and sorbets was quite extensive - you had your "normal" flavors (strawberry, chocolate, vanilla bean, etc), but they also had "artisanal" flavors like their popular apricot goat cheese and maple candied bacon and blackberry syrah (which wasn't on the rotation the day we went).

Man, too bad the gelato places down south aren't like this. If they were, I'd be there every day week!

Up next, another comic art exhibit. Onward to Liberty Station!

The last time we went to Delight of France, we parked across the street from Escogelato...and again, were too full to stop here. What choices- we could share a small cup and a coffee! Looks really good...and the cups look pretty; like flowers!

That's where Blue Mug Coffee used to be! My wife's co-workers were planning a surprise baby shower for her, and I used that place to stall her!

hi kirbie - yes, make it a three-fer! Gelato here, French desserts @ Delight of France, and donuts at Peterson's (Mary plans to go, I haven't been, but was recommended by a commenter)! :) maybe you would be more adventurous than me and try that apricot goat cheese ice cream. i can't bring myself to even eat a tiny bit of that.

Finally - a place that will let you get two flavors in a small cup! The gelatos look so refreshing right about now. I can't imagine the mesh tables and gelato on a hot day like today though :)

hi faye - Bus Stop Gelato in PB will let you have up to THREE flavors in any size, even a small!

Mmm, stracciatella is always my favorite. Look at you, finding all this neat stuff in Escondido! I had some pistachio ice cream at Lappert's in Poway a couple of weeks ago and theirs was not artificially colored, either. I liked that!

Hi Mary, yeah, i wanted to make our brief time in Escondido worthwhile. it helps to do research ahead of time.

There used to be a Lappert's in Chula Vista waaaay back in the mid 80's. It didn't last long. Their ice cream was good, but pricier than most other places at the time. They had tropical flavors. I think it's because it's a Hawaiian company.

Yes, Lappert's is a Hawaiian company. They usually run out of whatever I really wanted to try whenever I'm there, but their ice cream is really tasty. They also have those Dole whips you can only get at Disneyland, too. For some reason I have never posted about Lappert's.... guess I'll just "have" to go again :)

I haven't heard the name Lappert's in years. It was briefly in the CV Mall back in the 80's, when they were trying to fix themselves up and be more modern.
