Bon Epi was our next stop. A first for my SIL but a welcome revisit for me...
It was time to try out a few other flavors...
My SIL went crazy with the pastries. As a Francophile, she liked the style of pastries here better than the pastries at 85C just across the ways.

Yes....the object of my desire!

Haha, as I typed that phrase, I totally remembered this song:
Damn! Now THOSE are shoulder pads!!! I remember dancing to this song in high school with Astroboi, ha ha! I know he's reading this too. Don't deny it! That song plus "Diamond Girl"!
I was fancy that day and paid a quarter for this box that houses five macs. They only had red left.

Lying underneath the pretty paper...

Just a tiny peek before they were entombed once again...

Here they are two days later. A sacrilege, I know, but you can only eat so much sugar in a day.

I was afraid these might have gone stale but luckily they weren't.

Hazelnut - this was to thick and looked like a hamburger!

Coconut

Earl Grey - this was the ugliest shaped macaron of the bunch. It had a pointy top from where it was piped, I suppose. The filling was thick. The size was smaller than the other macs.

White Chocolate Taro

Mango Passionfruit

A bite or two of each was all I could handle...

The verdict? My favorite was the Mango Passionfruit. The Hazelnut was a bit dry (my fault for waiting so long). The Earl Grey I wasn't too fond of. Flavorwise, these are not as intense as the one's from ROCQ (which I did sample today as well). Bon Epi's macs are quite pretty and colorful, but were the priciest of the bunch at $1.95 each.

Our next stops (plural) would be in Little Saigon just a few minutes north...

Really liked it here on our second visit- the ham and cheese in bread (croissant) was wonderful-fresh, flaky and quite large. The Mister wanted to try the sea salt carmel mac and it was heavy and dense, in a good, hunk of carmel kind of way.
What happened to the macs after your one bite - Did you give em to Bert :)
hi cathy - i must try that ham and cheese bread next time (if there is one, ha ha). their macs are good if you eat them within two days. after that, stale city.
hi faye - oh yes, bert had a few bites as well. we finished them off the next day. :)
I always love it when macarons have bright colors in them. Pretty! A quarter seems a more reasonable price for a box, if you're gonna charge for a box at all. I saw a blue one I think in the photo of the case. I wonder what flavor that was?
hi mary - it was a quarter for the box that holds 5. the box that holds 8 (which has a prettier pattern) was .50. the biggest boxes (dozen or more) probably cost $1.00. but those are really nice and sturdy boxes. they are beautiful. i've saved mine so far (all three), heheh. packrat that i am.
the blue in the display case might have been blue raspberry.
