Plum crazy!

At the end of June, I had my hair stylist bleach a streak in my hair and add some purple semi-permanent dye. That only lasted a couple of week. I had her do it a few times since then, but finally got brave enough to do it myself. The photo below was a different color, courtesy of Cathy from mmm-yoso.

It wasn't as dark as my previous experiment but I wanted to give it a go.

Cathy was kind enough to gift me a package of her favorite (and now discontinued) color, Chilled Plum by Color Pulse.

OMG, I hadn't used mousse since the 80's! Yes, I admit it!

The package also came with handy dandy plastic gloves. I didn't even bother using a hair dye brush. The box said to just use your fingers, so I did! Wash your hair, then dry it, then apply the mousse. Since I only had a streak, I didn't even use that much. You're supposed to leave it in your hair for 30 minutes, but I left it in longer. Then you wash it out.

It came out a bit uneven and it soon faded back to the light brown bleached streak.

A few weeks ago, I was at this beauty supply store in Eastlake and came across this brand called "Punky Colors". I chose the "Plum" shade and this was the end result (did this last weekend):

The jar only cost $8.50. A little goes a long way and this stuff does stain! If I was going to do my whole head of hair, then this bottle wouldn't be enough. Since I only had the streak, I didn't use that much so it will last a lot longer, I'm sure.

You're supposed to use a hair dye brush (which I don't have, but may get one to use in the future), but I used those same plastic gloves to put it on my hair. I made sure to rub it in really well. trying to coat all the strands evenly.

Instead of half an hour, as recommended by the label, I left it in for an hour! I read a few reviews where  some people did that and the color was even more brilliant and there didn't SEEM to be any harmful effects. Okay, so let's hope that my hair doesn't fall out in a week because I left the hair dye in too long!

I touched up the ends a few days ago and man, you can really see it in the sun! Very purple!

I love this color, plus it literally smells like grape kool-aid!  It's supposed to last about twenty washes. We'll see about that. Anyhow, I wanted a fun look. It's not noticable unless you are up close and more noticeable in the sun. I work in an office and I can easily hide the streak, but usually leave it out. I think it's safe to say that I can rock the purple hair look. Once I get bored of it, I'll have to go back to black! But until then, purple it shall be!

Looks awesome! I like the streaks, not so into people doing their whole head another color personally. I always wanted to do raven blue streaks in my hair in high school but never did.

I missed this post! Well, I'm glad you tried it. When I put it in my hair, it's only plum until the first wash...then it's red...then pink-because the instructions tell you not to put it on 'gray' hair-which absorbs the color. If only it absorbed blue...I want to be one of those blue haired ladies!
