Bday lunch for TORC - Part 2: Bawarchi Dosa

Does anyone remember when this space was Gateway to India and Ker Market?

Well, that was a longass time ago (2006'ish)...Bawarchi Dosa is now in this space...

and has been here for at least two years (judging from their anniversary banner).

The space has been retooled to include Bawarchi Dosa on our left, and straight ahead, a room called "Orchid", which looked like a huge banquet facility.

The guy thought we were here for the buffet but we told him we only wanted dosas.

Since we already had quite a bit at Surati Farsan, we figured two dosas would be all right for us four.

Their dosas page...

and on the side, their Specialty dosas. I don't know about you, but that "apostrophe" in dosas is bothering me. It's not a possessive people! It's PLURAL!!!!

TORC chose the Onion Dosa ($5.99) - which was described as a crispy crepe with an onion "topping" (I think they meant "filling" since there was nothing on "top" of the dosa itself). It was served with four types of sauces, tomato, coconut, peaut, and in the larger bowl, a sambar that was like a chunky vegetable soup (eggplant, chickpeas, and potatoes).

The onions were the red variety and were chopped. Towards the bottom part of the crepe were spiced mashed potatoes. We thought the dosa would be more "filled" and that the onions would be cooked. Well, you never know until you try!

The other dosas was from the specialty page. KD was intrigued by the description of the "Paper Dosas" as being two feet wide. When our waiter brought it to our table, we saw that it was a really huge rolled up hollow crepe.

The paper dosa was also served with the same four sauces. I thought $7.99 for this was a bit steep considered it wasn't a filled dosa. Nevertheless, it was quite impressive to look at and I was reluctant to mar it's perfect cylindrical shape! I'm not sure if it was really two feet wide!

It was a fun experience trying two types of dosas. We were still debating where to go for dessert. It was supposed to be in the high 80's that day, so one place that I had in mind was nixed since it was farhter east where it would be hotter.

For those who are curious how to make a paper dosa:

We hope to try more types of dosas in the near future, maybe here or at Surati Farsan.

hi michael, same here! we figured we'd try it since it was right next door and because no dosas were available at surati.
