Kurbside to Go

After seeing the Kagawong Mill and the nearby Heritage Center, C wanted to take us to a fairly new vegetarian food shack...

which was unfortunately closed...

Plan B was to go to another food shack owned by a family friend...

She was curious to have us try their smoothies and their "sunflower-hemp burgers".

It was not to be, but C ended up going later that month. Her review is at the end of this post.

The food shack was back in the central part of the island, in Mindemoya, where we were earlier at Foodland and Mum's Bakery, which was about a twenty minute drive away.

Their native tribes are called First Nations.

So here we were back again near one of the main thoroughfares of Mindemoya. Up the street was the Foodland Supermarkets and Mum's Bakery. Nearby was a restaurant called The Roosterant", and many other businesses.

Their menu had basic burgers, wraps, and salads plus fried stuff! They also had poutine but we were going to wait 'til we got to Montreal for that...

Here's a view from across the street.

Both C and Bert ordered a few snacks to tide us over until dinner tonight. It was also Father's Day. I realized that day we didn't really have an actual lunch, but had snacked that morning and afternoon. These were mozzarella sticks with ranch dressing. Pretty standard.

I don't remember what the round fried things were - maybe mushrooms or mac and cheese. Who knows! The package in the back were fried shrimp with a sweet chili dipping sauce.

Bert and I shared the chicken wrap and there's those fried cheese sticks again. The wrap was probably the healthiest thing we ate today!

So if you've just tuned it, the Canada 2012 posts have us situated STILL on Manitoulin Island. We would be leaving the next day to embark on our epic road trip with C and her family (FarmerJohn and LO). It turns out that we were the first family they've ever traveled with, which was a surprise. I mean, they hadn't even traveled with their own families, yet here we were! From former blog friends to friends in real life. We were honored to be given that distinction and it turned out to be a fun and fabulous trip where we didn't end up strangling each other!

Even though we didn't eat here:

and a tiny brief mention from an article in The Sudbury Star where the author details many of the main stores and eateries in downtown Mindemoya (such as Mum's Bakery which is right across the street).

On another note, can you believe it's already October? The year is flying by so fast! It's also time to break out the Fall boots and sweaters! But for the meantime, let's just enjoy this 75 degree weather in our shorts and flip flops! We're such lucky bastards in San Diego!
