McCormick & Schmick's isn't a place we would normally frequent. This would probably be the first and only time we'd go here. We usually try to avoid the Gaslamp Quarter like the plague since it's usually crawling with tourists and conventioneers.
As we walked the Omni Hotel's lobby, we marveled at the pristine decor along with the lofty ceilings.
Perusing the menu, I knew that our $50 giftcard would be just enough to cover what we wanted to try...
Hmmm, these places aren't really "local"...the closest one is Carlsbad and San Marcos.
I got the Lobster Tail Bites (ouch, but thank goodness for that gift card), Bert ordered the Albacore Tuna Melt while TC had the Mac and Cheese.

TC's mac and cheese where they used penne, loads of bacon (that was a plus) and panko crumbs. The sauce was very creamy but not the classic mac and cheese flavor she is used to. We helped her with this, heh heh.
The Lobster Tail bites with Lobster Sherry Cream and Lemon Tabasco aioli. The tail pieces were chopped up and fried and stuffed back into the tail...
Nice chunky pieces. Wished there was more...
I hardly ever buy or eat Larry the Lobster so why not, right.
Bert's Albacore Tuna Melt - you could barely see the cheese. Despite the plain looking nature of this sandwich, it was actually pretty good. The tuna definitely did not taste canned. He really liked this and was kind enough to share a few bites with me. The fruit was his choice of side (as opposed to coleslaw or fries).
Gosh, was there even cheese in this thing? I liked the chopped celery in this, giving it a bit of a crunch.
The tuna tasted very light and fresh. Chicken of the Sea or Bumblebee this wasn't!

Service here was very attentive, as a hotel of this calibre should have.
Asides from the tax and tip, we made out all right with that gift card.

Mary went back in 2010 for Happy Hour (which, sadly, is no longer offered on weekends)

I peeked at their website and it looks like they have cut back on their happy hours (no more on the weekends) and have raised some of the prices. The lobster and mac & cheese look really tasty. I used to not like lobster that much but I've started liking it more these days... damn expensive tastes, haha.
hi mary - i remember reading your post and being excited that happy hour was on weekends, but that's no longer the case. :(
yeah that lobster was pretty good but not enough for an actual meal.
