Dark Horse Coffee, Golden Hill

The view of the mixed use You Are Here complex directly on the 25th St. offramp from the 94...

As seen on the 25th Street Bridge after we checked out the "hidden but in plain view" Crab Carillon....

At the bottom of the building is San Diego's third location of Dark Horse Coffee...

Dark Horse, Golden Hill is still in their soft opening stage and literally opened five days ago. The building complex is called "mixed use" so I'm assuming it's a mix of residential and businesses. We noticed a yoga sign on the outside of the building. There is a courtyard for folks to enjoy their coffee or just relax. One of the businesses is Tiger Eye Hair (a barbershop which uses the same font used in Led Zeppelin's logo; Yes, I notice shit like that).

Here is the coffee shop...

Their drinks are basic, like they should be. None of that flavored artificial syrup crap in a pump or frou frou drinks.  I got my go-to drink...you can probably guess already what it was.

Their lovely roaster:

They also offer pastries but we did not get any. TC overheard some yoga-pants clad hipster woman ask if the pastries were "gluten free". When the worker told her, "They are not, but they ARE vegan", to which she gave a loud sigh of disgust.  Geez, what a pretentious spoiled $#%@  Go do your downward facing dog somewhere else.

Their pourover station:

Our drinks trio:

The prices, which are reasonable, are pretty much the same as their other locations.

Bert's Macchiato with soy.  The cup did NOT have a handle.  Not fun to hold when it's burning hot.

TC's Hot Chocolate which was very creamy and milky. She liked it and said it wasn't like "the bitter sipping chocolate" she's had at other places we've gone to.

And yes, my smooth and excellent Cortado.

I love the proportions of espresso and milk in this drink. It's just perfect at 4 oz.

The folks here are quite nice. It's god to have another location of Dark Horse in this emerging (i.e. soon to be gentrified) neighborhood.

As seen on the sidewalk by Dark Horse:

I guess the guy who owned that one leashless dog didn't see this. It did #2 on one of the plants in the courtyard. At least the sign is polite, eh?

Articles:
"Local coffee house to expand to North Park and Golden Hill", NBCSan Diego
"Golden Hill gets new coffee shop..." SD Eater, August 2014. This article stated that it would open September 2014. Obviously, that didn't happen. That delay was about one year in the making.

Previous visit to other Dark Horse locations:
North Park - October 2015, where I had the maple latte with Astroboi

Original Location on Adams Ave in Normal Heights:
January 2014 where we had this horrible vegan donut

www.darkhorsecoffeeroasters.com their fb page + currently the lone review from that four lettered site, which I'm sure will change once more people know about the new location since tey haven't had their grand opening yet.

As with our previous excursions, whenever we are out and about, we try to maximize our time spent. Therefore, lunch was going to be down the street!

We were so close to here but didn't realize it. I think our new year resolution will be to try the local coffee shops. We do restaurants and grocers, but not so much coffee.

Next time then right? I've been a bit OCD in trying the coffee shops over the past year and a half.
