Music Box Steps

Our next stop was over in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles...

Apparently, this place is becoming more and more hipster (i.e. gentrified) from what I've read and seen...

I was curious about a set of steps that played a big part in an old Laurel & Hardy movie...

The Music Box steps are named after the movie, "The Music Box" in which the famous duo tried to move a crated piano up and and down this famous flight of steps to comic results.

The street is pretty narrow as it was built in the early 1920's when cars weren't so big. The steps also harken back to the days when people used the good old foot mobile to get around. In fact, there are quite a lot of "secret stairs" in this neighborhood as well as nearby Los Feliz that we have yet to explore.

The flight of steps itself isn't that long, but it is steeped in history and is marked by its own street sign and a commemorative plaque.

As this is a residential neighborhood, take care in not making a lot of noise when traversing the steps.

Sorry the plaque is hard to read...

Heading up...

The view from the top.

You won't break a sweat doing this flight but you would if you tried to push a massive piano up this thing like Laurel & Hardy!

Incidentally, one of my gal pals from the gym went here the same day. Her husband is a big pop culture buff and he suggested the steps as a mini side trip. It was so funny that we both went on the same day. That President's Day weekend, she and her family were up in Glendale for a wedding  and reception (an Armenian one to boot, so it was pretty epic and lasted several days). We texted pictures of ourselves on the steps, each an hour apart!

Well done! I like seeing and comparing the old and new. It's amazing to see how much has changed over the decades.

Our next stop would be a revisit to a really cool mural, the largest of it's kind which focuses on Filipino and Filipino American history...
