Taco Bell, La Bodega and the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club

All right...

I did a drive thru (hangs head in shame)...

and tried the Gordita which is a crunchy taco but wrapped in a thick and soft tortilla.

I ended up not eating the outer shell, finding it to doughy and bready and soft. Ugh.   I like texture and crunch much better.

I finally got a chance to check out La Bodega in west Chula Vista...This is right across the Costco gas lines. It is also next to a place called Broadway Diner, which in the olden days, used to be Godfather's Pizza. La Bodega is on the former site of Playco, a toystore which no longer exists. Bert and his friends used to buy their rocket supplies there.  I remember celebrating the Drummer's bday at Godfather's.

The imitation abalone doesn't look too good. I think I had something like that in a mixed tostada at Palaya Nayarit. It didn't look like anything natural and I think this was it.

I bought a couple of hot sauces, a can of chipotle sauce (as a gift for my friend C in Canada) and two barbacoa burritos from their hot food section.

Their produce is also pretty good here and very reasonable. Here are couple of chayote squash and calabasitas (looks like a zucchini). I ended up making tinola with these later that week.

Eaten later at home and enjoyed by all of us...

The previous week, La Ley, Mr. TJ and another friend/co-worker went to a sponsored luncheon at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, featuring USC and Santa Clara University. And oh yeah, a free lunch.

Heading into La Jolla

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club...well now. I was curious to see "how the other half lives".

Free flash drive yo'. Well, I was a nice mom and gave mine to TC.

Lunch was mushroom soup (this was delicious), salad and two kinds of wraps, a vegetarian and a turkey. Dessert was a chocolate chip cookie.

Both universities, as you can probably surmise, are top notch and of course, have the accompanying price tag.  We're talking about mid 40K!

Before leaving, we wanted to check out the view...

and were rewarded with this...

Not a bad way to end the week, right?
