Mandarin & Cucina Urbana revisit

Lunch on a whim earlier this week...

with my friends, La Ley and Mr. TJ...

We had pretty much the same thing we always get - salt and pepper wings, fried rice and noodles with chicken (we paid extra to have broccoli and snow peas).

The service is pretty quick here and the guy who's always there is super nice and efficient.

The next day, we planned for a belated birthday dinner for La Ley. We didn't have work the next day since it was Veterans' Day. Joining us was La Ley's husband who was kind enough to pick me up that evening.

Our parking spot a block away near the building with Mr. A's.

It's quite dark in here and it got to be quite loud as the evening went on. Mr. TJ was able to snag reservations the week before at 6 pm. The only other choice was 9 pm! What! So, 6 pm was prime dinner time it seemed.

A variety of breads plus chicken liver pate and brown sugar shallots in a jar. We had this last time. We also asked for grilled bread on the side which they gave us.

Pomelo Push cocktail - Sorry for the crappy photo but it was dark in here and I was afraid to bug people using the flash too much. This was gin, grapefruitand mint cocktail. It was kind of strong and I only ended up drinking half of it while the other three shared a bottle of red wine.

Pizza with brussel sprouts, red onion and prosciutto. This was a good second appetizer.

With freshly grated parmesan cheese...

Short Rib Pappardelle...

The meat was so tender and the sauce and mushrooms were delicious...

The Family Sized portion was quite hearty for us four. There were leftovers too which La Ley brought home.  In retrospect, we probably could have just done the regular sized entree. We were almost full at this point. A perfect dish for a cold evening.

La Ley's complimentary birthday dessert - Marsala soaked pears with some sort of bread pudding, cream. It was pretty light and not too sweet.

And now without flash...

La Ley and Mr. TJ both had coffees (I forgot what kind). They use Cafe Virtuoso here, which is good.

This was not what I was expecting since I pictured the drink served in a martini glass not a big honkin' Mason jar. The drink was good but I could only finish about half of it.

Previous visit to Cucina Urbana:
May 2015 also with Mr. TJ and La Ley (our post-Prom drinks were here)

While we had a great time, I kept thinking about the coffee I drank and if I would be able to fall asleep! The caffeine did keep me up and the last time I looked at the clock while trying to sleep, it was 2 am! Yikes!

Only a few more weeks until our one week Thanksgiving break, then after that, Winter Break for three weeks!
