Trio - The Pie Whole, Pressed Juicery & Cool Haus

Right next to Intelligentsia Coffee was this trio of shops:

We actually didn't go in through the front, but through the back of Intelligentsia which connects...

to the vaguely vulgar sounding, Pie Hole!

When TORC and I initially wandered to the back to find the bathroom, we discovered the shared space with the Pie Hole, the Pressed Juicery and fancy ice cream place, Cool  Haus.

We took two slices to go, both sweet.

These were the savory pies, which I totally wanted but didn't have room for, so maybe for a future trip...

The space is long and roomy with an industrial feel. They also had a few tables near the Pie Hole, and in the middle, a communal table (which I would've HATED because I'm so antisocial)...

Our pie slices were entombed in the boxes...I ended up dividing them when we returned to SD, or I should say CV!  Orale!

The Crostata, kind of like a brownie in a pie, and the Apple pies....

I liked the crust for both of these. The apple pie was quite packed with thinly sliced apples and had a good flavor. Loved the caramelized sugar topping on the apple pie crust!

In the middle of the large space was this trendy juice bar, which had the "ugliest logo" ever (according to KD).  It's a root but to me, it looked like  a pointing hand.

Both TORC and KD enjoyed a few samples from this place while I wandered over to the Cool Haus in the front.

The juice thing seems to be so "trendy" and therefore, I didn't want to partake in it. Plus, I'm not into drinking juice as a meal. The thought of all that liquid sloshing around grosses me out. I'd rather eat food, haha!

Instead, I moseyed over here...

No, I didn't order a fancy ice cream sandwich ($5, yikes) since I was still full from our visit to Carmela, but I did take advantage of trying a sample of one of their more interesting flavors. There is actually a sign that limits customers to trying only two flavors

See where her hand is? That's the flavor I tried!

I couldn't really taste the fried chicken part; it was more maple flavored than anything.

I liked the variety of their flavors...

In all, a very upsacle hipstery joint filled with overpriced pies, juice and ice cream.

Who else went to the Pie Hole?
Kirbie went earlier last month...

yum, those pies look good! And yeah, that juice sign is quite unattractive.

hi kirbie - they were good but pricy. the roots logo on that sign is ugly, i agree.

My sister brought back an earl grey tea pie for me. It was good, but the cream was sooo filling. We shared one slice and it was more than enough for us.

I saw Thai tea pie on Yelp. I wanna try that!

Mmm, pies! That brownie looking one looks really good and the crusty top of the apple looked good, too. I liked the sound of some of the flavors from Cool Haus. Lame they limit you to two flavors... what if you hate both?!

hi mary - the crostata looked cool but i felt kinda ripped since it was basically a brownie with a pie crust.

the cool haus flavors had a mix of both the wierd and the normal. i didn't get another sample but didn't notice the sign until after i looked at my camera.

yeah, that's a good question!
