Return to Romesco's Mexiterranean for lunch

Just as I had hoped...

Our planning calendar meeting day culminated in a working lunch over at Romesco's...

where we were seated near the bar. It was bustling even at 1:30 pm.

One of my friends got the soup and salad combo ($10.95). This was the Spied Cream of Pumpkin Soup garnished with pepitas (pumpkin seeds).

She chose the Saverios baby spinach salad with strawberries, gorgonzola cheese, pine nuts, jamaica (hibiscus flowers), Mission fig crostini (which I didn't see), and raspberry dressing.

The verdict for both - it was polished off! She loved it and now wants to take her husband there. She had the healthiest lunch out of all of us.

Mr. TJ and another friend both ordered the Costillas de Res street tacos. No photo shown. You can see the link to my previous visit at the end of the post.

Another friend ordered a Lunch tapa, Gambas al Ajillo ($5.95/shrimp in garlic sauce)...

which is her tried and true favorite. The garlic slices were sliced so thinly and added so much flavor to this simple but satisfying dish. Keep in mind, we were also served warmed bread with butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We used the bread to mop up the sauces in our dishes, even my friend who had the soup!

La Ley had the Seared Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi with jalapeno and ponzu sauce ($7.75)...

Last time she had the Gambas al Romesco, which is what I ended up ordering today ($6.25). I know I said I would get the Bone Marrow sopes, but that will be for next time. I still have my coupon that I want to use with Bert.   Here was my tapa lunch...

See all that sauce? OMG, I just want to bathe in it! Well, not really, but you know what I mean! Although there were only four shrimps, they were quite large and filling.

While on the way to Romesco's on Bonita Road, I passed by the tiny strip mall that houses the original TJ Oyster Bar (recently featured in a post by Cathy of mmm-yoso). Looks like the corner space, which used to be Jacalito Grill (a Mexican place which used to be a failed kabob place and before that, a chiropractic office) is going to be a new Thai place.

Well now...we'll see if that lasts.

Out of curiosity, since "2" was in the future eatery's title, I looked up Thai Taste and found that the first location is located on El Cajon Blvd (near 70th).

Once again, a fab lunch! Each dish was a winner and with the exception of the soup and salad combo, under $10. We all want to go back to bring our respective others to try the rest of their lunch menu...

Happy Friday!

OK. Definitely on my list next time we are driving South. The Owners of Thai Time (1) originally owned Thai Time restaurant in Santee bought by the Sab E Lee people and moved to that location (next to Elsa's Kitchen, which makes the best burgers). It seems that location is doomed(but maybe not) and the original TJOB will last forever.

Their tapas are reasonable and if you have their bread, then it's like a full meal. Warning though - they will charge you if you ask for more bread. We found that out on the bill. $1.00.

Mmm, that shrimp in garlic sauce tapa looks really good! I remember liking a lot of the sauces from here. Your dish looks good, too! Man, just give me anything with shrimp in it and I'm happy.
