Lunch at Pier Market, Pier 39

After seeing the boisterous and rather pungent smelling sea lions on the other side of the wharf...

we looked around to see where we could have a quick lunch snack.   I thought the store above was cool, especially since I am a lefty myself...

TC was dead set on having clam chowder in a bread bowl, so we went here...

to a place that was both a tourist trap and also one that was voted "Best Seafood in SF", Pier Market at Pier 39.

We got in before the lunch rush, so thank goodness for that. By the time we left, it was packed.

TC got the sourdough bowl filled with New England clam chowder...

while Bert and I shared the Crab Cakes...

Yes...touristy but still pretty good!

We loved the size of these crab cakes. They were totally worth it and the Cajun remoulade provided a tiny bit of kick.

One day we'll try that other place that Thane's cousin was walking about, but for today, the clam chowder in the bread bowl served it's purpose. TC enjoyed the novelty; the soup was pretty tasty as well.

Instead of mints, we got Biscoff cookies, a nice touch.

Before leaving this tourist trap hell known as Pier 39, TC wanted to stop by this candy store...

They had your regular candy store candies in huge bins with scoops. They also had these questionable items...Hmmm, candy bra anyone?

They were also selling Pez for the astronomically high (for Pez, that is) price of $5.99! WTF! I can go to Vons or Target and get a Pez dispenser for $1.99. Boo to ridiculous markups!

TC bought a few sour candies...

Before leaving, we showed TC the carousel she rode on when she was three during our last visit here...

We met up with my cousin and her kids nine years ago and went to the Pier at night.   Now her oldest daughter is in college and the middle child is going to USF this Fall! Time flies! TC will be in high school in just a few months. When I first started this blog she was in kindergarten.

We still had a few other things on our itinerary so we headed back to the Ferry Building, this time with the sun fully out and shining...

Funny, I think they only time I've ever gotten the bread bowl soup was at California Adventure. I just can't imagine I could eat enough of it. This one looks good - even if you're in the "tourist trap" haha. The crab cakes look good, too, not too much filler crap.

We were advised NOT to get the soup/bread bowl anywhere but at this one cart place near Fisherman's wharf. We couldn't find it, so we settled for this place.

Yes, filler in crab cakes suck. This one was mostly crab!
